Title: I like your stoftware but!
Post by: Instine on March 02, 2007, 06:09:03 PM
Hi

I really do like Avast, but its currently flagging my software (Talklets (http://talklets.com/) ) as ad-ware. Not only is it not malware, but its actually accessibility software, and as such its preventing some of our users from even accessing internet content.

Please advise on how this can be remedied ASAP, please

Thanks

Please advise on how this can be remedied ASAP

To know if a file is a false positive, please submit it to JOTTI (http://virusscan.jotti.org/) or  VirusTotal (http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html) and let us know the result. If it is indeed a false positive, send it in a password protected zip to virus@avast.com
Please, mention in the body of the message why you think it is a false positive and the password used. Thanks.

As a workaround, you can add these files to the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning) exclusion list.
Left click the 'a' blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize. Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button...
You can use wildcards like * and ?. But be carefull, you should 'exclude' that many files that let your system in danger.
After that, please, periodically check it - scan it into Chest, right clicking the file -  there should still be a copy in the chest even though you restored it to the original location. When it is no longer detected as being infected then you can also remove it from the Exclusion list.

This link is a tutorial on how to help correct a virus detection that you believe to be false:

Thanks for your comprehension and I hope avast team correct this false positive (if it is so...).

The link has also not yet been tested by SiteAdvisor or Scandoo.
If it's safe however just follow Tech's advise till avast! makes a change.
Welcome to the forum. :)

Until this is updated by avast, did you follow this advice from Tech as a temporary fix?    ???

There isn't an automatic answer for the submitted files.
The best they can do is adding the virus signatures asap.
