Title: Protected folder settings seem to be absent from Ransomware Shield GUI
Post by: loungehake on May 09, 2021, 09:38:37 PM
In Avast free 21.3 there is no apparent way of changing settings for folder protection in the Ransomware Shield GUI.

The only settings available are for specifying file name extensions for protected files. There seems to be no provision for creating or enabling folder based protection.  Has it been accidentally omitted?

Got it! These protected folder settings are in the Protection section under 'Ransomware Shield'. Why wasn't it also included in the Ransomware Shield section under 'Settings'? Shouldn't mutually relevant settings be kept together? Using Avast is sometimes like playing hide and seek.  ::)

I agree with you. The simpler interface has made finding settings harder and more hidden.

Totally agree, a root and branch update of the UI is needed there are too many levels and god forbid, that monstrosity called the geek:area, a hidden and undocumented area of the UI is a bloody nightmare.

Someone really needs to take a peek at old UIs before the rot set in with the Windows Tiles style UI (a bandwagon that all and sundry jumped on).

Avast's Configurability was a major factor that made me move to Avast over 17 years ago, but all of that has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Avast is soooooo good that I readily tolerate its little foibles. To question those foibles is to look a very good gift horse in the mouth.
