Title: Will avast secure browser also develop site isolation?
Post by: polonus on May 19, 2021, 09:55:44 PM
@ avast secure browser team,

Read: https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2021/05/18/introducing-site-isolation-in-firefox/

Isolating each site into a separate operating system process makes it even harder for malicious sites to read another site’s secret or private data.

Such site isolation settings should protect against the so-called Spectre-attack.

But there are other ways to achieve this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectre_(security_vulnerability)#Mitigation

I think what Mozilla are doing with site isolation is going to push others in that direction.

Mind you, it does require a savvy user to know what has/is going on and elect to move browser.  For the most part it is ignorance is bliss.

Hi DavidR,

You know, more often than not I can fully agree with you. This time again.
Ignorance is bliss, and keeps one's mind at ease.

We here should know better what could come to bite us online inside a browser.
Long enough on these forums to also think according such lines and have it at the back of one's head always.

Site isolation also may save you your browser memory.

The more savvy a user should know how to toggle uMatrix for instance,
what scripts to block, etc.

But then after all those years here on the forums, we also have a hunch as what to do under given circumstances.
One eye on Avast Online Security extension and some feeling through extended experience for what could go on.

And there is always these key-combinations: Control+Shift+I, just to peak under the hood.
Or "Shift+Esc" = Browser Task Manager.

Night night,

Security is a tough sell ;)

Good night, it will probably be a couple of hours before I get my head down.  I'm more of a night owl these days.

I really liked the other article, the picture examples really are worth a thousand words :)

But it is good to see it spreading.
