Hi, all. Please welcome the newest version of Avast AV: 21.4 (21.4.2464)
Major public announcements
- Improved Wi-Fi Inspector — We now scan for even more types of threats, and our improved results screen allows you to better understand what we’ve found thanks to clearer explanations, better organization, and improved tips for resolving detected problems
- No more popups in streams — Good news, Windows 10 users! Our antivirus popups will no longer appear in your screen recordings and streams
- Enhanced exceptions — Exceptions for scans and shields are now easier to add, customize, and maintain
- More installation options — You now have more installation options when activating subscriptions that contain multiple apps
Other notable improvements and new functionalities:
- Family Sharing — Premium Security (Multi-device) users can now share their subscriptions with their family members. Subscriptions can be shared across Windows and Android devices (Mac and iOS to come later)
- We now recognize available (but not activated) products — We’ll no longer show offers for apps that users bought but haven’t yet installed
- We’ve added Detection IDs to Behavior Shield dialogs — Other shields have already had this, but now Behavior Shield also gets a unique ID so our Support and Thread Labs teams can better identify reported threats from screenshots that customers send us
- Added Sandbox and backend analysis parallelization to CyberCapture to minimize interruptions to our users while they interact with suspicious apps
- We’re now applying formatting (time, calendar, etc.) of Windows regional settings in our UI
Bug fixes for:
- Web content opened in the app-cart instead of browser
- Rescue Disks that booted in Windows Preinstall Environment triggered a restart [Win7]
- Sensitive Data Shield was not active after leaving Passive Mode through Settings
- The last file from the multi-selection was omitted
- Manually invoked Passive Mode did not require restart, caused some components (like CyberCapture) to misbehave
- Web Shield samples were not detected after the URL was removed from the exceptions
- ...and many others
As usual a big thanks goes to the team for yet another successful release!

Can you describe better what it is?
No more pop-ups in streams - good news, Windows 10 users! Our antivirus popups will no longer appear in recordings and screen streams
Thank you.
-
Thanks for the new release :)
Version number is 21.4.2464, right? ;)
-
Thnx for this release.
Added Sandbox and backend analysis parallelization to CyberCapture to minimize interruptions to our users while they interact with suspicious apps
Can you elaborate a bit on this ?
Greetz, Red.

I thought it is reasonably clear.
If you happen to be recording something on screen (video capture), you don't really want a popup screen in the middle of recordings or streams.

It's build number, not version number. Quite confusing though.

I noticed that the new releases, in the settings, have not been translated into the Italian language. For example, the flag that describes the pop-up stream and privacy notifications related to customized products.
They remain in English.

Thanks, some items that are "squeezed" into the release closer to the release date might not always get a proper translation straight away. It will get there in a few days though - this is not dependent on the release of new AV version, it is part of "UI updates" that are happening more frequently. So we're just waiting for localized strings to arrive and once that happened it will get updated.

Where is Avast Antispam?

Where is Avast Antispam?
Avast Anti-Spam was removed some considerable time ago and for a time only existed in the MS Outlook client with an avast outlook plugin. As far as I'm aware this too has been withdrawn.
-
Avast anti-spam add-on and tool bar have disappeared with the latest update. Up until today I had the anti spam tool bar in my MS outlook mail client.
Not happy about this... I felt more secure with it and I prefered to have the option to white or black list.
how can I be assured I am protected from spam.

How can I establish a new password for my Avast settings after having to use Avast 24/7 Premium Tech Support to help with a mess from a hacker and now cannot enter my Avast settings?

This version has totally buggered-up my computer. The Web Shield keeps finding false positives and blocking almost all my mail traffic. It also stops my Iphone from receiving mail. This is ridiculous. Is there a fix or do I have to uninstall Avast to get my messages?
-
The new release is great. Thanks !

I noticed that after logging on the PC after a few days obviously the virus definitions were not up to date and Avast Free reported that the PC was not protected. So far everything is ok. The problem is that even after an hour when the PC was connected to the internet, the definitions were still not updated. In the details he gave the definition of the latest updates but said to update them. How long after turning on the PC do they update automatically?

Have you tried doing a Manual Update ?
I have just been off-line for over 6 hours and checked Avast reported VPS version 210605-2 as being installed.
A manual VPS Update check brought it up to VPS version 210605-4, this one was quite a large one as it took a while to download. So I'm wondering if after a few days I just wonder if it can't handle it automatically. So try a Manual Virus Definitions Update.

No actually I didn't try a manual update, I wanted to see if it did it automatically.
After turning off the PC for a few hours I turned it back on and after a few minutes Avast told me I was safe, in fact the virus definitions were up to date.
Probably my connection at that moment was not very fast and it took longer to update since the PC was turned off 2-3 days.
I just wanted to be sure that somunque automatic updates work even if the PC is turned off for a few days and when I turn it back on it doesn't stay too long (a few hours) with the definitions out of date.

@DavidR I noticed that the update is VPS 210605-2 and the time is the most recent 19:16 (approximately Italy time) and it does not say to update.
Strange shouldn't it be upgraded to VPS 210605-4?
-
By manually updating Avast has upgraded to VPS 210605-4 ...
Very strange ... we can't always stand by and watch updates and manually perform updates ... ;D ;D ;D

Well you seem to be able to find the time to post ;)
So someone else can find the time to check, simple if in doubt do a manual VPS update.
EDIT: Don't forget you should also be getting the Streaming VPS Updates, so a short delay in the main VPS updates isn't really an issue. If I remember there is a delay in checking for new VPS Updates.

No, I did not understand... :)
Wouldn't it be better if all this happens automatically without manual controls?
You risk not having the latest updates and therefore having a percentage of exposure to the latest malware ... Especially if it lasts for hours ...

Ok, yes, now I have read the modification of the comment.
So streaming VPS updates complement the definition updates? I still don't understand how the streaming ones work.

So streaming VPS updates complement the definition updates? I still don't understand how the streaming ones work.
They do micro updates every few minutes usually and are very small by comparison a few KB. Just check the defs sub folder and they have _stream at the end of the file/folder name. Click that and you can see the micro streaming updates, in my image mine are 2-4KB in size, so fast and small.
When there is a new VPS Update they contain the cumulative streaming updates and they are then removed.

Interesting! Thanks so much, now it is finally clear to me what streaming updates are. :D ;)

You're welcome.

It looks like this has been running fine.
Until today.
I just has my Avast Cleanup Premium renewed. When the laptop rebooted, I was automatically downgraded to Avast Free AntiVirus. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT?
Looking through the forums, it was suggested that I re-activate it. When I copy and paste the activation code from 19-Mar-21, which is when I renewed Premium Security, it tells me "Sorry, this code has expired."
WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? I JUST PAID FOR IT 2.5 MONTHS AGO!! DON'T TELL ME MY ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION HAS EXPIRED!!
-
New versions with greater protection are always welcome! What I miss, however, is the Network Connection Enable\Disable feature in my Taskbar. Was the omission intended? I used it constantly, all day long, to ensure total privacy. Now I must physically unplug my LAN cable every time. :-\

Afer this update PC starts to microfreeze for 1/3sec each ~2 minutes. Win 10 20H2/21H1. I`m almost shure it's caused by Avast because the freezes stop as i deleted it.

Avast has a slight bug. After exporting settings, restoring them does not restore the list of Ransomware Shield protected folders.
Alternatively, does anyone know where Avast keep the list of Ransomware Shield protected folders?
Also, when adding folders to Ransomware Shield to protect, I suggest you have checkboxes to add multiple folders.
I keep all my data folders in an external hard disk. So I'm disappointed that I can't add the entire drive as protected folder in Ransomware Shield.
