Title: Force Kill Instup.exe
Post by: Norm20 on May 21, 2021, 12:51:58 AM
How do I shutdown instup.exe?

It keeps running and not finishing. I can't can't kill it in Task Manger and it is getting very annoying.

How do I stop it?

It is the avast update process and as such is protected by the avast self-defence module.

You say "It keeps running and not finishing."  It should close when it has completed, I don't see it in my task manager, so it could be something on the system could be blocking it (firewall perhaps ?).

What do you mean by this, e.g. are you getting any error messages, if so what ?

Have you only recently installed avast ?
What avast program, version and build number are you using ?

Thanks for replying. I fixed it with the Avast Clear Tool.

I was upgrading to the latest Avast Free when it got stuck spinning it's wheels. It ran non-stop chewing up CPU time. If it was doing anything, it was taking way too long.

I am all set now. Thanks.
