How do I kill a scan or any other Avast task in progress?
There are times I need to immediately reclaim CPU cycles. Avast takes a big bite out of CPU performance when it is actively running a scan.

Hi, I'd suggest to schedule your scan to more appropriate times. ;)

That didn't seem to help with killing the process. Thanks anyway. :)
I'd like to especially be able to kill the start up scan or defer it until the next time I have to restart. I reinstalled with the bare minimum and excluded as much as possible. I regained control of my system after that. All I want out of Avast is the scan. I don't need all the other features. I only use it for scan on demand. It would be nice if there was a light version. I dumped Symantec because it became a bloated resource hog. Avast appears to be heading up the same road if it's not already there.

Thanks. I enabled "Passive mode" and disabled "Enable Defense" That appears to do what I want. It also seems to have fixed a problem I had with a game loading excruciatingly slow and running in slow motion after it crashed last night.

You're welcome.
