Title: Avast Installation on Workstations
Post by: TecHNecK on April 25, 2007, 08:15:54 AM
I am evaluating the SBS Suite. I installed it on my server (SBS 2003 R2) this evening. I saw the silent install where I could allow workstations to download the component for desktop protection. Well I have gotten really confused on how to get it on the workstations, I stared a silent install wizard where I indicated that I would use the default install location. Reading some help instructions from Avast, I found that I have to create a shared folder where AVAST would drop two files. The help menu also to drop the Avast Installer in the same folder. I don't know what installer to drop in the folder. I tried to put the entire AVAST server installer in the shared folder thinking the installer wold recognize A networked workstation and would only install the components needed for the workstations. So I went to a workstation on the network and located the shared folder on the server. I ran the installer and nothing. Is there a better way install on 5 workstations.

The confusion comes from the fact that the instructions you were reading are for the silent installation of avast PROFESSIONAL Edition (i.e. the unmanaged version). For the managed version (used in conjunction with ADNM) you don't really have to mess with any files, shared folders etc etc.

Simply open the ADNM console, create an installation package (you can accept the defaults in the wizard), then create a deployment task for this installation package and run it on the clients.

I'd suggest reading the 1-2-3-4-5 instructions displayed when you start the console, it won't take you more than 5 minutes and should give you quite a good idea on how to do this.

Thanks
