Title: Can't update Avast Home.
Post by: cheater87 on April 25, 2007, 06:27:20 PM
I click the green update button and the program freezes. It has auto update on so I'll see if it can still auto update, but manual updating isn't working. I installed the newest version from the green popup that said a new version was available. I also tried restarting the computer and that didn't work either.

Are there any errors in the avast log viewer (right click the avast icon, select log viewer), Warning or Error sections.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

That would tend to indicate that the installation is not good. Allied with your other problem, best to reinstall avast, see below.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html (http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html) and save it to your HDD so you can find it later.

Now run the uninstall utility, reboot, install the latest version, reboot.

Its working now. I had to cut it off to get on the bus. Came home and it updated. That was odd.
