Oops, this doesn't look nice.
The worst thing is, due to IDIOTIC feature of Windows, the text in the window cannot be copied to the clipboard.
Any idea how to copy out the contents of the window?

Is it very important?
How about I intercept all the picture with the text?
It's looks so huge :-\

It is important...

But it's not easy to make a screenshot of the whole contents - as it is very long. >:(

Try at least capturing the part with the "Stack Trace"

Last time i checked, i was able to copy those crash logs. But you have to select the text and use Ctrl+C command, won't work by right clicking it and trying to use Copy command.

One more thing to try:

   * run regedit (start -> run -> regedit)
         o navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PCHealth\ErrorReporting\DW\Installed
o make a note of the previous value if you'd like
         o set to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRWTSN32.EXE
           [the default is C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\DW20.EXE]
   * run drwtsn32 -i (start -> run -> drwtsn32 -i)
o [it should say that Dr Watson has been set as the default application debugger]
   * run drwtsn32 (start -> run -> drwtsn32)
o set the desired path in Log File Path [you don't need to change it]
o set the desired filename in Crash Dump [you don't need to change it]
o make sure Crash Dump Type is Mini unless we need to generate a Full crash dump

After enabling crash dumps, restart the update process and when it crashes click the Send Error Report button and hopefully, some files will be generated on the machine in the Log File Path specified above.

I'd need those files (especially the "crash dump")

Thanks
Vlk

PS. my email address is in my profile.

Mina, unfortunately not, the appcompat file is pretty much useless. I need the dump, or (at least) the entire contents of the Details window.

Mina, this is useful; however, the user.dmp file you attached seems to be somehow corrupted. Could you please send it to my email?

Thanks
Vlk

Guys, can you please confirm that all of you have avast installed on a FAT32 (as opposed to NTFS) volume?

Thanks
Vlk

I can`t update either using the same methods that the other user used!

I uninstalled and downloaded the setup.exe and it crashed citing the ntldll.dll error. I am Fat32 and had no trouble until today.

David you're trying this with Chinese avast?

No just the topic 'can't update to 4.7.997,' avast English version.

I've had to restore my last back-up image as on reboot things hung up 100% CPU but with Outpost Pro, weird couldn't kill the process (self-protection) I got a BSOD when I tried to restart again.

So unfortunately no further data other than the images I already posted.

We've got it simulated now. It's indeed a problem with FAT32 volumes.

A new version, 4.7.1001 is going out in about 30 minutes. :-[

Thanks Vlk...
But I can't understand why, after all this effort, you don't call it 4.8. Indeed, a lot of things get better since the release of 4.7, in my opinion.

Great, my HDDs are indeed formatted as fat32.

I was going to try again after having created a new back-up image so that saves a little work.

Thanks for the quick response.

4.7.1001 is now out. Hopefully it will fix the problem.
Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks

OK downloading it now.

What was it that caused the issue with fat32 formatted drives ?
In three years this hasn't happened on any of the numerous program updates.

Download completed sucessfully and just need to reboot to finish.

It had something to do with access rights management done by the avast installer... :-\

One thing I have gleaned from my pc and from friends attempting the update is that Win XP FAT32 presents an issue for it.  NTFS, no.

So if your friend hasn't updated to the 4.7.1001 version they should.
