Title: AVAST Home - Start Up Query
Post by: redvet on May 01, 2007, 10:43:21 AM
Just installed Avast Home.  Could someon explain the purpose of the blue screen scan - Report file which comes up when I start up my PC and takes forever to complet the scan.  Tried using ESC to bypass but doesn't work.

It is a boot-time scan, which runs when you first install avast to check that you system is clean. It can also be scheduled to happen on the next bot (one of schedule).

It is normally used when removal of a virus chant be achieved because it is protected, running or in a system folder and as such protected by windows; the boot-time scan runs before windows starts so whatever was running isn't and that interference/protection isn't present.

If the escape key doesn't work it could be that you are using a USB keyboard ?
If so it would indicate that USB devices aren't enabled in the BIOS set-up.

Careful if your BIOS set-up saying your USB IS enable I mean fully enable sometimes the bootscan doesn't work and it won't let you bypass the bootscan when you hit the ESC key when using the usb keyboard.

As mind didn't work still fail to bypass the ESC key in the bootscan  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

You have a 50 - 50 chance your usb keyboard might work if your BIOS set-up wasn't set to enable so you really need to set this to enable, after that run bootscan and check if your ESC key can bypass the bootscan.
