Title: Help with avast blocking game
Post by: rwatson26 on June 27, 2021, 01:45:15 AM
So avast is blocking game Iron Harvest, for IDP.generic which is almost certainly a false positive. However, since the game is on game pass, there is no file I can point avast to in order to except. Avast is not quarantining any file either. Also, the site used to report false positives insists on file inclusion.

What are my options for playing this game? Do I have to turn off avast? Not something I want to do, and a bit of a pita. Any suggestions welcome

Attach a screenshot of the Avast alert window, with the more details info expanded.

If there is a specific URL ling being blocked it is possible to report that.

Reporting Possible False Positive File or Website - https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php (https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php).

It is not a website its an app. Avast  says :

 Threat secured.

We've blocked IRONHARVEST.EXE because it was infected with IDP.Generic

That is it.

I cannot use the false positive report because it wants me to link ironharvest.exe and windows will not allow that.

As I mentioned a screenshot would have been helpful.  As that gives information on the detection and location without that it is a bit of a guessing game.

I can't see why Windows even gets involved, as you would in effect be trying to upload the file, not a link which relates to a detection on a website.
As I said

So I'm not really clear in what it is you are trying to do.
A screenshot of the error message would also help.

I appreciate your trying to help. What I am trying to do is launch a game... on Windows Game Pass for PC. This is why there is no uploading, no URL, no file location. Windows keeps hidden the files for these games, that is why it is involved. I posted every bit of information on the detection and location that the avast pop up had, apart from the bit that told me I may have more infections and the `scan now` clickable.
Edit :
never mind I finally figured out the exception.

It is the steam folder that has injector.exe detected as Trojan sometimes flagged as prun.exe
Injector.exe can install "tons" of trojans.
First seek to know it could be a false positive, hack tools can often get FPs.

If so, and not a genuine trojan, one could exclude the entire steam folder.
Either not risk if the detection is genuine.
Update to avast's and wait for a final response from avast team.

I haven't a crystal ball to see what you have run into there.
