Title: pcdecrapifier to get the goodies off that came pre-installed with ur new PC!
Post by: polonus on July 11, 2007, 09:16:00 PM
Hi malware fighters and crap fighters,

A lot of computers come ready installed with a lot of things you like to de-install, Packard Bell Computer is going to pre-install for the following 8 years Symantec security software on all their PC-lines. That is about two million computers both in Europa and the Far East, that come standard with Norton Internet Security 2007. From late 2007 the Norton 360 OEM-versions are being pre-installed. So a lot of people need this program to get all the pre-installed goodies from their new PC's: http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/

I just read earlier today that Dell will be doing just the opposite.
They intend to remove all the crap ware and trial ware from their
pre-installed packages.

Hi bob3160,

You are always a propeller of good news here, bob3160. Thanks for the info. Dell will make some friends with this policy, as they did with their linux distro install, if you like to install your Windows later like you want to have it as a lot of people do.
It is just like with the Novell's Open Office more secure version, better than the regular O.O. version, good to offer a choice to your users.

Michael Dell: Anti-crapware poster CEO? (http://ct.zdnet.com/clicks?t=39219230-98ec0b9bf7e2843a2a0b58f2ad773e46-bf&s=5&fs=0)
Larry Dignan: Dell CEO Michael Dell, speaking in New York City at its Vostro launch, sounded like a man almost ready to rid the world of trialware,
which we call crapware. And there's a good reason for that: Crapware costs Dell money on customer support.

And there was I thinking that Michael Dell was doing it in the best interests of the end user ;D guess not. I would have thought that the revenue he got for placing the crapware on his systems would have covered the support.

C'mod David, be realistic ;D No one is able to provide such a good technical support for Norton Antivirus and some other trial software they are installing on those computers, so it can create that good revenue... Those products are such a crap, even their technical support gave up on trying to help people  ;D  ;D  ;D They didn't know how to help people, so of course Michael Dell realized they are actually loosing money... with Norton, you can help people just so much  ;D

They get a revenue stream, I'm sure first from one agreeing to install the trialware and second if the user purchases the product.

That is the price of selling OEM software, you support it not the Software manufacturer. It also speaks volumes about there selection of the crapware in the first place.
