Title: Since i install Avast! i can get access to shared files/program on my home LAN
Post by: zOOrro on July 31, 2007, 02:56:27 AM
Hi,
First sorry for my written English.
This is mi first time here and i really need help.
I installed Avast! in one PC with Win2K (The "old" one).
I have another with XP (The "new" one).
Both are connected by a IP router (for sharing ADLS connection).
We have this little LAN called "CASA".
Before Avast! were installed i got access to files and programs on the "old" one from the "new" one.
Now i can not, the "old" one says that i have not permission to see/run that.
The "old" one has this user "andres" (the one i use to login in the "new") with admin rights.
I appreciate any help.

Let me see if  I have this correctly ...

Before you installed avast you could access the files on the other computer.

After you install avast you cannot access the files?  Is that right?

What exactly is the error message you get?

Is this the only change you have made?

Did you make any other changes like install or change a firewall?

Thank you for your time and patience.
1) Yes, before installing avast i got access to both: files and to run programs.
2) Yes, after i install avast i can't access the "server" (but i can access other data partition on the same fixed disk)
3) I translate the error using google translate, so maybe it sounds different...
"IT DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO \\server\C on sever. IT CAN THAT DOES NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THIS RESOURCE OF NETWORK. MAKE CONTACT WITH THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THIS SERVICE TO VERIFY IF IT HAS ACCESS PERMISSIONS.
SPACE OF INSUFFICIENT STORAGE IN THE SERVER TO PROCESS THIS COMMAND.
4) After install avast, i download Ad-Aware and installed on the same PC. But it's the freeware version without real-time protection, just manual scans.
5) I don't have firewall on that PC.
Again, Thank for your help.
Andres

Please see this post:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29300.msg240716#msg240716

even though this is posted in the server forum I needed to make this change in my Windows XP system (a number of other users have reported needing it too).

Let us know if this helps.

This helped me a great deal. Whoever vlk is, that good looking guy in the link you posted, who is a global moderator, he gave good advice about OPSLOCK and IRP.

I strongly suspect that "SUPERANTISPYWARE" changed the setting in my registry, impacting network connectivity. Cost me about a dozen hours (conservative estimate) trying to fix this problem.

Just wanted to say that I think I have CONFIRMED that SUPERANTISPYWARE changed registry settings in not one, but both of my computers where I had it installed.

The one computer on my network without this piece of ... software... ;-) was fine.

Needless to say, I uninstalled SUPERANTISPYWARE. I have a rule. If a software costs me twelve hours of troubleshooting, it gets uninstalled.

I'm here again to find the settings I need to change because the second computer is having the same exact problem. Thank god for Vlk.
