Title: no notification
Post by: matofthemint on July 31, 2007, 08:50:31 PM
Used to, in Component Services, Event Viewer, Antivirus there was a notification when Avast had been updated. Now there is nothing. How can I get this back to the way it was?

What are your settings, see image ?
Is the update automatic or set to Ask, as you don't get a notification with ask.

What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0630-2 (see about avast!) ?
This is to ensure that you are getting updates, as no update, no notification obviously.

Update is set to automatic. I get a verbal notification when it is updated, but if I am not at the computer I don't hear it so I don't know. It was nice to be able to check.

I thought you said that you didn't get a notification, the audible one is it, if you happen to be away from your computer the only way to check is the avast Log Viewer, Notice section and that maintains a log of updates. See Image, mine may differ from yours as I have it set to Ask.

Complete the avast! 4 Home Registration (http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php) form and you will receive an email from register @ avast.com (without the spaces) with your registration key.

Is the registration key shown in my last image not valid?
The notification I mentioned is (was) in - see attached.

I can't tell because the complete registration key isn't shown in the about avast display, even then it would need to be tested by Alwil.

If it were invalid there should really be some error messages displayed.

Check the avast log viewer (right click the avast 'a' icon) Notice section as I said which should retain the information, not the windows event viewer.

Do you get any sounds in avast, check Program Settings, Sounds and ensure you havent disabled the sounds.

Sounds are on. The log viewer is empty.
I did get a verbal today stating that Avast had been updated. And all the numbers are the latest.
 -  this is the complete license key.

As I said I couldn't validate the key that would have to be done by Alwil, I'm just an avast user like you.

The key looks valid, at least in the right format, but if it weren't valid it would say and you wouldn't be able to update.

I suggest you remove your unique key to avoid its harvesting.

You need to check that your Logging level is set to at least record this information, Program Settings, Logging, ensure that the slider is opposite Notice then every thing above that will be logged.

If this doesn't resolve things, try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

Please go to folder C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log and check for a file called notice.log.

Is the file missing or is the size of the file 0Kb?

The log file is there, and it has content, but there is no Notification file.

i have no idea what you mean by a Notification file.

However to get the avast Log Viewer to display the notice.log you need to click on the Notice icon in the Log Viewer display.  You clearly do have a Notice log.

I should have said  "no notice.log".
Every thing in the Log Viewer is empty.
The next time I get an automatic update (voice notification), I will check every thing you've mentioned and let you know the results.

Then just display the notice log with a text editor like notepad.exe ... up to what date do the entries go?

It is working for me, using firefox, first is a test example, second shows interface for multiple attachments.

Have you got javascript enabled as it uses that to load the next input attachment entry ?

What browser ?
Javascript and Java are different.

Did you click on the (more attachments) and did it display as in my second image ?

I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing this problem in the forums, though not many post multiple images in the same topic.

IE 6
Yes, I clicked, and, no, it didn't.
I can't find any thing about Javascript - just Java.

I think IE buries it under active scripting or some such setting, I rarely if ever use IE now.
