Title: Avast Pro - Continually Scanning on boot
Post by: kilsystems on March 01, 2004, 08:47:53 PM
When I installed Avast Pro it continually scans the machine on boot; so much so that it does not allow Explorer.exe to load.  On several reboots it then allows Explorer to load; therefore allowing the icons to display on the desktop.  The same is the case with Avast Home.  When I uninstall Avast there are no problems booting, but whenever it goes on it creates this issue.

Is there any solution to this?

Do you have any other AV program installed? Or have had one recently?

Thanks

Absolutely none.  It was on a fresh install of WinXP Pro.  Now, if I uninstall Avast the machine works fine as well; the same is the case if I were to re-install XP completely and not install Avast.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Could you explain a little more in detail, please? I must admit I don't understand what the avast! boot-time scanner has to do with loading Explorer...

I believe he's not talking about the boot-time scanner at all, all he wanted to say is that Windows practically freezes when loading the Explorer...
