Title: Trust
Post by: DeanOz on October 02, 2021, 02:21:11 AM
Hi,

I'm annoyed.

When it comes to security software, trust is vitally important.  It's critical.  I need to trust that you will do everything in your power to stop malicious intrusions, while at the same time giving you full access to my PC in order to fulfil your job.

I've been using Avast for decades, so when I heard you were selling my information for personal gain, I was gutted.  I know this was awhile ago, and you've 'said' you'll fix it, but what guarantees do I have.  What recompense did I receive?  The idiot that sold my data, are they still employed?  I don't care if my personal details were scrubbed or not, because this is about trust.  And I've lost some of that with Avast.

My trigger for this annoyance, is the ambiguity in your messaging.  You have this page "We protect digital freedom for everyone", and go on to say you will keep me safe and protected.  And right at the bottom of this page, just before the footer, is advertising for Chrome.

How can I trust you, when you're getting a kick-back for sending me to Google, which is proven to be completely and utterly untrustworthy???  SERIOUSLY!!!

IF YOU'RE GOING TO PROMOTE A BROWSER WHY DIDN'T YOU AT LEAST PROMOTE YOUR OWN???

Even Fire Fox or Edge would have been better.  You commercialised an entire page that makes all the context about trust, safety and protection entirely rubbish.  The age old "I don't mean to offend you but your ugly" is still offensive.

You clearly don't get it!  Anyone that says "trust me", eg: "Trust me, I'll never lie to you" is clearly untrustworthy, because trustworthy people are judged by their actions and don't need to justify themselves in words.  And your actions are there for the world to see - "Trust me, but I'll get some dollar dollar if I promote Google products".

Yeah NAH!  Strike 2 guys.  >:(

Some people dislike Google, I can understand that, but that is not a wide consensus right now. Even on this forum and Avast itself use Google Analytics IIRC.

So, it's your choice to dislike/avoid Google, but you can't force others to do the same. It's a matter of the judgment of each person/company.

Just my two cents.
