Since Windows 11 now comes with or soon will have the ability to install and run Android apps, isn't it important now that even security products that are mainly focused on Windows malware like Avast should also start detecting Android malware with their engine?
Of the AVs available out there, it seems many products don't have the ability to detect Android malware on Windows.
Avast for example doesn't do that. It does detect some Android malware but only a handful (maybe because of similar signatures or heuristics). It can't everything in my experience like their Android version. Products like Bitdefender, Norton, and some others don't detect all Android malware on Windows either.
Based on my own test and Virustotal, Avira, ESET, Kaspersky, Dr.Web, Microsoft Defender (partially) and probably McAfee, Sophos, K7's Windows AV also can detect Android malware on Windows. Their signature contains Android malware patterns.
Avira and Microsoft's Defender's real-time protection doesn't seem to detect them, but their on-demand scanner can. Kaspersky's real-time protection doesn't seem to react if the Android malware was already present on the disk but if it's a newly created file then Kaspersky detects it quickly.
ESET detects Android malware by their real-time and on-demand scanner anytime, anywhere.
I think Avast's Windows version also needs to detect every Android malware. Either the local signature should contain every pattern or it should be at least cloud-based like those "FileRep" detection. It should be implemented any way Avast sees fit, in my opinion. It should help users to prevent sideloading malicious Android apps at least if Avast can detect it before doing so.
If any forum expert, any Avast developer, or anyone working for Avast sees this then let me what you think about it? Is it necessary to do this? Does my suggestion make sense? If anyone can direct an Avast dev to this thread, then please do so. I'm eager to listen to their thoughts on this.
