Title: User Account Control Sometimes turned off. (Avast Free)
Post by: KM101 on November 28, 2021, 07:15:33 AM
Hello Good day everyone.

I would like to seek some guidance here. I'm currently using Avast free and I noticed earlier that my User account control was turned off after I noticed my windows defender icon showed an exclamation point. Is this normal behavior or should I be worried?

Thank you

1.  I'm not entirely sure what the problem is, I can access UAC using avast free, a screenshot might help of what area of UAC you have the problem with.

2.  When you install a 3rd party antivirus Windows disables Windows Defender to avoid conflict.

Hello DavidR,

Thank you very much for helping, sadly I don't have a screenshot of it being turned off. I only caught User Account Control turned off one time a few seconds after windows logged in since I reformatted 3 days ago and right now everything is green and checked on the virus and threat protection page.

Also right now user account control settings is set the same with your screen shot. Technically nothing seems off about it right now and since you mentioned that 3rd party antiviruses disables windows defender to avoid conflict. It makes me wonder if there's nothing really wrong. Maybe I just scared myself.

Just in case its a malware that caused it to happen. Is there anything I need to check? I already did boot time scan and when I came back it was already in Windows log in page without anything quarantined so I guess it didn't see anything.

You're welcome.

It is Windows that actually disables the Windows Defender, not the 3rd party antivirus.

I can't think of anything else that you need to check other than what you have done, other than monitor.
