Hi, all. Please welcome the newest version of Avast AV: 21.11 (21.11.2500)
No major news in this one, just a couple of bugs squashed to end the year on a higher note.
Thank you all for your continued support!
How to install:
1. Update from your existing Avast version via Settings -> Update -> Update program
2. Or you can download and install files:

Is there a list of the bugs squashed ?
Some are looking for the Export/Import problem to be resolved.

Hi, I'm writing a cyber tool and would like to be notified on any Avast alert.
Is there an API/SDK for such an integration ?
Thanks
Avi

Hi David, the main problem with Export/Import should be solved in this version. However, during verification of the fixed problem we found out some more issues that are connected to specific configuration not being exported/imported properly so agreed to give it more time in December/January to make it better. Have a nice day. Petr

Awesome news!
What I can add, as an example, in version 21.8 Export/Import of settings into/from a file kinda worked,
but some settings didn't restore at all to the ones that were set during exporting into a file.
That was easy to miss, until I tried changing every single setting (and removing global exceptions) after the Export and then trying to restore them.
When you will be finishing the fixing of the Export/Import system, and will be checking that everything works,
especially keep attention to those problematic settings:
The Shield's own settings (I only had Web and File Shields installed, so it could be either a problem with them, or with ALL the Shields),
"Malware / Potentially unwanted programs" Sections of settings.
Global exceptions, (directory paths added manually).
-
This version seem to have solved most of the Restore problems including Firewall Application Rules. But it still can't restore Ransomware Shield settings i.e. Protected Folders and list of approved apps.

Thanks for the prompt response and the new of further time being spent on it as I feel it is a very useful/crucial backup tool.

Thanks for the new release :)

Hi,
I don't know if it's part of the bugs treated with this version but:
1-the special characters are displayed correctly in the new release notes
2-"Avast antivirus" does not appear twice in application notification.
as it was the case when I upgraded to 21.10

edit:
however I spotted a French translation issue.
-
I noticed that the new version of Avast Free with the firewall active was randomly slowing down my internet connection and not opening web pages.
I uninstalled Avast Free and everything is working fine again.

Not anything I can confirm on Windows 11

Confirmed also for the German version.

I updated to the new version through Avast, selected the restart now option and let it do its thing. Now my display drivers don't work properly. I can't adjust the brightness on my laptop monitor, and my second monitor plugged through HDMI can't be detected. I had the same problem a few months ago when I had to uninstall and reinstall Avast, and it messed it up on the uninstall portion. I was able to fix that though through an optional HP (the brand of my laptop) driver update through Windows update that found and fixed the problem on a restart. I don't have the ability to do that since there are no HP updates through Windows update to install right now, and the Device detector from the HP website isn't helping me out.
Has anyone had a similar problem after an Avast update, or ever?

Afaik, no. If you want to dig deeper, start a new thread and provide details.

Hi,
Like the previous version after the install with full installer, the first start doesn't work.
I mean there's normally a screen saying to start first scan and many things after...
But nothing, it have a warning message, it doesn't load, try to load, or repair installation....
After a simple reboot it's ok to go inside the avast main page, but is my pc fully protected :o :o :o

Hi, I'm new here, could someone please assist with a query, since it seems it is impossible to contact avast directly?
I am using avast free edition (#?)on the old Windows XP home.
It randomly starts downloading shitloads of 'stuff', which I assume is updated patch files or antivirus updates, but I have no control of the data usage.
ALL pc functions stop, including browser(s), internet traffic and open windows or access to anything until up to 200 Mb of 'stuff' is downloaded!
Is this normal and if I can change these automatic settings, how?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you are on Win XP you should be on v18.8 or v18.5. My experience is v18.5 seems less of a resource hog. You can download from filepuma.
See: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220639.msg1565331#msg1565331
If you use v18.5 you will need to open the Menu>Settings>Updates and turn OFF Program updates. Otherwise it will update to v18.8. Leave Virus Definition Updates ON to ensure those are updated.
More resources for Vista/XP are offered by @bob3160 here:

Thanks so much for the assist!
Much appreciated.

You are welcome.
If you have further questions re Avast and WinXP, I suggest you use this thread: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220639.0
It is now a bit of a niche subject, and probably best that questions are kept in the one place.

Hi, I can't hide the Avast icon in the taskbar! When I choose the option to hide the Avast icon, the icon hides. When I restart the PC the icon is present in the taskbar! If I go into Avast's notification settings the option "show avast icon" is not checked, but the icon is still there. It's an annoying bug. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Avast but nothing has changed. Thanks for helping me.

is there way to get avast to only have pop up IF it blocks virus/malware/unsecure connection?
I getting tired of seeing this Pop for none related events (your ip is exposed, you have junk files ,etc) alot people would consider these pop up scare tactics.
Most computer I reinstall windows on these days are just use MS Defender, these pop among other thing i slowly stoped installing avast on new windows installs
-
They are correct (not just scare tactics), these do present a risk (it is your choice what risk you accept or tack action on), if you have avast free these are the cost of free. If you have a paid version of avast you can disable these in the settings.
I just smile when I see these as essentially I know my IP, etc is visible, do I care not really I'm not doing anything illegal or dangerous and I still have avast to protect me, Web Shield, WiFi Inspector and File System (behaviour shield, etc.) as a fallback.
-
This BUG is still not fixed-
The Firewall Question message box that asks a user to allow or deny a computer outgoing request, does not completely show the IP address. The message box cannot be resized to show the additional line of information, nor can it be scrolled lower to be able to see all of the important information needed to make an intelligent choice.
Look at the attached picture of the message box. The entire second line of the Remote Address is cut in half horizontally.
Avast, please fix this issue. Is there another place in the paid Premium Security software where I can see the entire outgoing address?

The latest versions of Avast seem to me to be a bit too aggressive in terms of CPU usage. If the PC is on, but no processes related to installed applications are running, Avast starts scanning. This is correct, but not to the point where the CPU temperature rises noticeably, and consequently, the fan speed is increased to keep it at acceptable values.

- Which Avast..? (Free/Premium/One)
- OS..? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP/Build..?)
- Other security related software installed..?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast..?

Fixed now. :)

I purchased a friend of 10 Avast Premium licenses. It would be my question to deactivate one of the licenses on a machine, such as Windows reinstallation. Because if I'm reinstalled you take it as I would use a new license again from 10.
Thanks in advance for answers!

Hi,
for about 6 months I have been receiving persistent popup messages from avast asking me to upgrade, every time I start my pc, despite having disabled all the options relating to promotions and offers. I wonder why avast does this intense spam even though I have purchased a regular license of Avast Premium Security (volume licensing). If avast continues with this "policy" I will be forced not to renew the subscription and switch to an alternative solution.
-
Hello the-mind,
can you please share screenshot and logs. I would like to check it. Logs: copy content of c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\ to a temp folder. Pack it (zip) and send it to me please: petr.blatny@avast.com
thank you

I already did, I was just posting here so that support knows it's not an isolated case.

I strongly suggest to ignore such "homemade" YT tests, most of the guys have no idea what they're talking about.

I enjoyed doing some malware testing today, and Avast Free, with file protection turned off to simulate zero-day attacks, did just fine. Only with the exploit recognized and eliminated was it necessary to restart the PC, but after the restart the PC was perfectly functional and clean. After the tests the PC is clean and fully functional and all malware eliminated.
Excellent performance of Avast Free. ;)

You have received what is a best guess in the coming week would be 7 days, you are never going to get an exact answer (when it is ready).
So asking questions like this can only have one answer (when it is ready).
What's the rush if you have program updates set to Automatic, monitoring the forums as you do you should see its release as it/is will/likely be a sticky topic.
