Title: Any downsides in Avast One over the old free Avast?
Post by: ehmen on December 23, 2021, 04:15:46 AM
I still have the free Avast and didn't yet move to the (free version of) Avast One. Is there any reason why I would want to stay with what I have now and not install Avast One instead? In other words, are there any downsides to getting Avast One and ending my current version of Avast?

Very informative. But my question isn't addressed there.

Is there a reason why you're interested in Avast One?
There will be  a learning curve to get used to the interface and find your settings.

Avast Free is still fully supported.

Is there a reason why you're interested in Avast One?
Yes, if it offers more features and doesn't lack any that the legacy Avast has. Also perhaps it won't cause all the errors in my system that the current version is.

The best way to find that out is to give it a try.

That may be true, but I was asking if anyone here had any insight into this.

I'm using the paid version and as I said, there's a learning curve and
it's not as customizable as the free version. It does have additional features but it's also
missing some. (WiFi inspector for one).
Sometimes, you need to read the book not let someone else try to tell you about it.

I'm assuming that this dual version availability is temporary and at some point Avast will phase out the legacy app and force everyone into Avast One (free or paid). Do you agree?

I just went from old Avast to Avast One.  The learning curve does not seem bad at all.  The main difference I notice so far is fewer settings options in Avast One.  But so far that has not been an issue.  I previously used Premium Security for one device.  The reasons I went to Avast one were two:  I was having an issue with the subscription on Security.  And two, I had finally decided to use Avast on my two Android devices.  I just decided to go to the Avast One version that allows up to 5 devices. There are also a couple of additional features included in this version that I don't think are in the free version, although those do not seem all that important.

It has only been two days so far, but I have not encountered anything that would make me think I should not have changed to Avast One.  On the other hand, I have not encountered anything that would make me think changing to Avast One has any great advantage.  In my case it was just a choice between trying to get my Internet Security subscription issues resolved and then upgrading that subscription to include multiple devices, or going to a 5 device Avast One subscription.  I just decided on the latter.

Dev-Info: To set expectations right, Avast One is not a replacement of the Antivirus or other Avast products. Avast One is a new product line with a distinct feature set. Pre-existing products remain available, should you prefer to keep those.

In my avast experience, I don't believe in this in the long run.
As for the switch from IS to premium, I don't give a long life to the current versions if ONE manages to find its way to enough users   :)
Anyway, the current classic versions have nothing to do with those of 2 years ago (engine, UI, ....)  ;)
