Hi all,

Last update: November 10

Anyone who's experiencing problems with 4.7.1074 is now encouraged to install the new pre-release version (4.7.1083) which is supposed to fix the issues. For details on the 1.4.1083 build please see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=31426.0

I corrected the path to copy the file to; it should be Windows\System32\drivers, not just Windows\System32

Hi,

I'm using Avast! Home v4.7.1074 under Windows Vista 64-bit, and everything is still working perfectly. I'm curious though, what are the changes in this version? avast! 4 Home/Professional Revision History only details up-to version 4.7.1043.

Regards,

Yet another build of the driver has now been posted (05-11). If the previous driver didn't solve the issue, please go with this new one.

Cheers

Excellent news, thanks for the ultra-fast feedback.

BTW a new build of avast (containing this fix) will be released pretty soon (this week).

And, again, yet another build of the driver has now been posted (06/11). If the previous drivers didn't solve the issue, please use this new one.

Hopefully, this one will be the final.

Wow...you have NO idea what you put me through the last couple of days. Both my 32-bit Vista Home Premium machines, one HP desktop with Intel processors, one Toshiba laptop with AMD... were both rendered basically useless.  Virus scans, system restores.... GRRRRRRR! :(

Glad I found this thread tonight... sure looks like I have my HP server back... now to test the Toshiba...

So.... what was it with that little 45Kb file that wreaked so much havoc with Vista?!?

P.S. Thanks for the fix. I feel better now. I will let you know how the Toshiba goes. You should put the title of this thread in BLINKING BOLD TYPE...

It's a system driver, meaning that little file can indeed cause many problems.

Hi,
I just installed your new driver and it seems to be working fine. Opening Navigator used to take 1 sec, installed Avast, then it took 15 seconds to start, installed your new driver and now it takes 3 seconds. Other programs like Mail went from several minutes to start to 3 seconds when Avast is running.

I had terrible problems to launch programs. Launching was slow and during the process even the mouse circle cursor vanished and the computer did not show any sign of life. Launching of Firefox took about 30s to 1 minute. I had the problems after the last Program update of Avast. Stopping all providers improved dramatically and switching them back on made it as bad as before.

Now I installed version 4.7.1083 and it seems to be much better. Thanks!

I use Vista Prof. on a Centrino Duo Notebook with Core 2 CPU T7400 2.17GHz with 2G RAM

I'm running Home 4.7.1074 under XP-SP2. When the Web shield is activated, I lose my connection with the Web. If I close it down everything works fine. This is not the case with 4.7.1043 which I am running on another pc.

I'll try 1085 ay suggested.

not running Vista bit I have a windows 64-bit system and running XP pro 64-bit and having major virtual memory issues ever since i installed avast pro 4.7.1074 and all my apps are taking longer to load and run and I have major system lag issues when I play my game Anarchy Online unless I reboot before I log in to play.  This was never an issue until I went from the free trial to Avast pro addition.  Maybe need help witht he settings or?
only errors i get are related to quickbooks or windows office with this software.

The trial version is identical of the Pro version. If you buy the Pro version and add the key, nothing should change. Otherwise, if you come from free to Pro version, the Script Blocker provider will be added. Is there any error displayed in the screen? What is lag issue for you: delays, when they occur?, if you disable avast do they disappear?, which other security programs are you using?

microsoft has their own security porgrams that run at the same time and we have not recieved any error messages.  We are running XP Pro for 64-bit on a 64-bit system-AMD dual and we have 435G remaining on HD and 2G RAM.  We went from free software and bought the pro for 2 yrs., so the script blocker was added in.  I get a system message that our virtual memory is low, not like an error message,  just a warning to close some aps which was never an issue until we bought Avast pro.  Seems to me there is a huge memory leak?  The lag issues occur if our system is not rebooted every day and still I am seeing some in my game that i didn't have before.  Yes, lag issues go away after I disable avast pro.

Snowie, I'm not sure I'm following you. Have you tried installing the latest beta (as suggested in the first post of this thread)? If so, did it make any difference?

I have 2 vista Ultimate 32bit PCs, on one 4.7.1074 works fine, on the 2nd PC Security Center does not recogize Avast or Defender.  The 4.7.1096 does not correct this issue, any help appreciated.

Dell Dimension Desktop
Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz
RAM 2 gigs

THANK YOU!  I installed 4.7.1074 yesterday (I don't know why I didn't pick it up sooner) and immediately noticed that it took a long time for my apps to launch.  I'm now on 4.7.1096 and things are back to normal.

I'm glad you've got that topic posted at the top of the forum.  I agree with someone who posted earlier who said it ought to be in big bold red letters flashing.

I hope one of these beta versions is pushed out to users soon.  Probably many Vista users are experiencing this and don't know the cause.

Thanks again!
