Title: Avast Firewall questions
Post by: ccm582 on February 07, 2022, 08:15:02 AM
When trying out Avast Free's Firewall, I let my network be detected as "Untrusted" which means it is supposed to block all incoming connections. But when I checked the apps allowed by Smart Mode in Firewall Rules, a few of them has rules allowing incoming. Why is this?

Also, Avast One's Firewall only allows us to allow/block apps. Does it follow the same Basic & Network Rules as in Avast Free in the background?

1) Smart Mode - Recommended. Avast automatically makes the choice of whether it allows or not, based on the reputation of the app.

2) Allow - Not recommended. Malware can create connections as you always.

3) Block - Sometimes recommended, but is not recommended, since it blocks it from accessing the internet.

4) Ask - Ask the user whether to allow the application. Recommended in most cases, however the user might get too many popups.

2. Setting as untrusted does not block everything.

Note this topic should have been in the Avast One (for Windows presumably) sub-forum.
