Title: Avast Free versus Avast One
Post by: davews on March 03, 2022, 07:15:06 PM
I have returned to Avast after a year with MS Defender. I was getting a lot of false postives with Defender on my Windows 11 machine, yesterday I plugged a USB stick in with various old things on it and it complained that a very old copy of Avira on it was infected.... So cursing I have reinstalled Avast.
I found since I left there is now a new Avast One. I decided to ignore that and install Avast Free which I am familiar with and all is set up and working. But what if any advantages are there with One or is it just more of the same thing and maybe limited control on what it installs? Possibly already discussed here and in the One forum but couldn't find it.

Personally I feel Avast One has less configuration than Avast Free original version and for me that makes it a no go.

However, that might not be the case for you.  I suggest that you browse the Avast One for Windows sub-forum as this may give you an idea - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=126.0 - of what others are finding and some links to FAQs, etc.

I notice there is no Mail Shield in One, something that many will consider as being essential.

I'm with you - at the same time many are only using webmail nowadays.
