Avast Secure Browser being defined as default navigator, .PDF file have a "type" defined as Avast HTML Document when listed in Windows file Explorer and are well opened by Avast Secure Browser, but when a file is selected no visualisation is launched in the preview panel on the right part of the Windows File Explorer window.

Right click on one of the files and select Open With, now you should be able to open it with your PDF viewer, also select it as the default option. If your PDF viewer isn't listed, use the Choose another app.

While we're at it, how can I copy a document to a flash drive or SD card? Every time I try "copy and paste," I get "This disk is write-protected." It's not my SD card, it's the fact this is a .pdf marked as an "Avast HTML Document," and I can't even copy or move to an SD card. Thanks.

If the SD card is write protected then it doesn't matter who or what created the file it is protected.
A google search on what you ask returns many hits:

If it isn't 'your SD Card' should you even be using it in the first place.
