Title: Windows Mail error code: 0x80072f89
Post by: nigel.d.andrews1 on March 26, 2022, 03:15:43 PM
My email has, just today, started showing the message "error code: 0x80072f89" when I try to sync emails.
But if I stop Avast then it works fine.

Any ideas please
Thanks
Nigel

I'm not sure what I can add?
Using Win11
Running Avast One (free) 22.2.6003 (build 22.2.7013.717)
Running Windows Mail for a few months with no problem.
In the last week, when I try to sync email I get the error code: 0x80072f89.
But if I turn off Avast Shields then the email sync works.

Check out this search on the error code - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=error+code%3A+0x80072f89

The first hit is from Microsoft.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/error-code-0x80072f89-mail-app/ece929b4-bd3b-40a7-b7ec-49b7829ba6c6

The second mentions SSL Certificate

After investigating the issue and looking at various user reports, it seems like the error code is related to a problem with the SSL certificate. But keep in mind that this is only true if you’re getting the 0x80072f89 error code inside the Windows Mail App.

Now the Avast Mail Shield has an SSL Certificate that should be imported into your email program for it to be able to intercept emails so they can be scanned.  I had to Export the Avast SSL Certificate and then Import it into my email program Thunderbird and that works fine.

Unfortunately I have never used Windows Mail, so I can't help in that regard.

I don't know if this should be in the Avast One (Free) forum rather than the Avast Free Antivirus / Premium Security (legacy Pro Antivirus, Internet Security, Premier) forum as I don't use Avast One and though they would have many similarities, they could also have differences.

Thanks for your help.
That is interesting though it doesn't really help me get at the problem.
I don't know which has changed in the last week or so to cause the situation. Where for a number of months Windows Mail has been fine.
I will try and post the question in the right forum.
