Title: Processor 100% when I copy a large file (20Go) from USB drive
Post by: Eric19 on May 16, 2022, 06:38:21 PM
Hello,

When I copy a large file (20go) from a USB drive, the CPU usage goes up to 100% (for 1 minute or so USB3).
When I copy the same file with Avast disabled the CPU usage remains what it was before starting the copy (for example 6%). I have try many times with reboot.

I have Avast One, Windows 11, i9 12900K CPU, 32GB RAM on MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4 motherboard.

I would like to be able to avoid scanning known USB devices I use, or all USB devices and scan on demand but I can't find any possibility to do so in the menus...

I'm also seeing intermittent issues with a Focusrite USB sound card (Scarlett 4|4 gen 3) and since diagnosing this USB drive issue I'm wondering if Avast is the culprit?

Kind regards,

E

Hello,

After repeating avast agents disabled diagnostic several times, copied and observed normal cpu behavior, yesterday even when i disabled avast agents, maximum cpu usage continued on all cores, when copying files from a USB drive to a SATA drive.

After trying a lot of things (updating the bios, changing usb ports, removing all peripherals and a few restarts, uninstalling some applications...), I finally discovered in the "MSI center" an option "USB Boost" which when activated causes these inconveniences ("Storage Boost" in the same menu seems to cause the same inconveniences).

I'm really sorry to have disturbed you.

Since isolating the issue, I've found other users here and there reporting similar machine behavior.

I think Avast needs the support file as mentioned by r@vast.

Hi,

So this is caused by MSI center and not Avast One. Thank you for the update.
