Title: avEngine.exe - Entry Point Not Found
Post by: scythe944 on December 11, 2007, 04:24:37 PM
I'm having this problem at two of my locations.  Both networks are running windows server 2000 advanced.  This popup window appears at the start of the server:

Application popup: avEngine.exe - Entry Point Not Found : The procedure entry point ??0CGenericFile@@QAE@PBD_NH1@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library aswCmnB.dll.

I've looked around in the forums and have found similar entries, but not exactly this one.  To be honest, I haven't touched any configuration in the ADNM console or anything really.  I figured it was a benign error because everything still seems to function correctly, but now that it's happening on two servers at two different locations, I figured I should look into it a little further.

Here is the error at the other site:

Application popup: avEngine.exe - Entry Point Not Found : The procedure entry point ?InitFile@CGenericFile@@QAEK_NH0KI@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library aswCmnB.dll.

They look pretty similar.  I looked for how many aswCmnB.dll files were on the computer, and found 2.  One was in "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\" and the other in, "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Management Tools"

I'm not sure what to look for, or how to fix this, so any help would be appreciated.  I'm actually about to upgrade the one site to 2003, and join these two domains, so I might not have a problem for much longer.  A fix in the meantime would be great though!  ;D

Thanks everyone!

Interesting indeed. Can you please try invoking "repair" of the ADNM installation?
(Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Avast! Management Tools -> Change/Remove -> Repair).

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

Here's what happens.  Attempting to login to the ADNM Console gives me the popup window.  It seems to login anyway, but it throws the error (I logged into it just to see if it gave me the error).

On the repair attempt, It throws the error again, but then says, "The product was successfully updated."
I tried it a few times to see if the popup repeated, and it did, and had the same successful result each time.

Now, upon thinking about this problem after my initial post, I've also been having some other strange errors on this network as well, such as event 1000's, 1001's, and others, which point to mis-communication between the server and the clients.  Computer and user accounts aren't being validated, and shortcuts to a user's "My Documents" which are forwarded to the server, are prompting for windows usernames and passwords.  I've also found this problem at the other site, and I have a feeling that avast is preventing communication between the server and clients.

If you think it may help, I may try re-installing the software on all clients and the server, or just the server at least.  I'm not really sure, I want to disable the A/V just to see if it fixes the other problems.  Let me know what you all think!
