Title: Browser Opens Automatically
Post by: Oscar Nelsen on July 20, 2022, 04:43:28 PM
Why is the browser opening by itself on restart or reboot in Windows 8.1?

Hello. Oscar!
It is default behavior of many applications, you can switch it off in Win settings (just search StartUP Apps)

Thank you!

Thank you.
Follow up: I've been using Avast browser for some time now.  Any idea how it got into StartUp a couple of days ago?

Hi Oscar,

can you please share your diagnostic information? It will help us with investigation.

1. Open the browser and click on the menu icon (3 dots in upright corner)
2. Click on “Help and About Avast Secure Browser” and then “About Avast Secure Browser”
3. Click on “Diagnostic Information” (this will open a pop-up window)
4. Click the “COPY TO CLIPBOARD” button to capture the information and paste it here.

Thank you!

When I click “Diagnostic Information” the screen flashes but I get no Pop-up.  Any subsequent clicks on “Diagnostic Information” elicits no such flash or anything else.

I checked our internal documentation and found out we have several rules (e.g. after browser update) where we might enable this option  to promote our new features.

However the system is set that once you manually disable the option it wont be re enabled again.

Task Manager>Startup>Avast Browser>Disable.  If that is the best way to counter this problem, no need to reply.  Thank You.

I hate to disagree with those in the know but I have disabled the browser at startup in the settings and it ignores this in both my desktop and laptop (each is running Win 11). When I disabled it manually in the "Startup" for Windows it gets added back every time Avast does an update. This is extremely annoying as I do not need to see a browser when Windows starts. Once again, this morning, Avast Browser has added itself back to my startup after an update. Can someone help me understand why? I'll even include my diagnostics below:

Make sure this On Startup setting is set to off in the Browser Settings.

Hi mcsteve,

please could you confirm that you disabled the setting on the Bob's screen? I checked settings on our side and there is nothing that would change the setting for you.
When was the last time you turned this setting OFF? Maybe we had a bug in the product which may be now  fixed.

Thanks

I'm on Windows 7 and had the "on startup" setting set to no and the browser was still loading.  I found it was also added to the "Start" folder in the Windows program menu.

Hey, stevec5375,
thanks for feedback, did you try both ways?:
1.
Task Manager>Startup>Avast Browser>Disable.  If that is the best way to counter this problem, no need to reply.  Thank You.

2.
Make sure this On Startup setting is set to off in the Browser Settings.
