Title: complaint! - Restore and add exception does NOT work !
Post by: surfing69 on September 03, 2022, 02:45:58 PM
the other day i was installing an automatic update for a product i already have installed on my PC when suddenly i saw a Threat window pop up stating that a file in the installation had been quarantined. As a result  the installation failed.

when i opened the quarantine area i ticked on the file quarantined and selected restore and add exception.

however when I attempted the installation again, the Threat window popped up again and quarantined the same file !

I would have inserted the screenshots within the message but it isnt clear how to do this and so had to add them as attachments

Not being able to install an application due to the errant behaviour of the Avast AV program is is unacceptable

can Avast tell me why your programme is not behaving as it should be?

This should be in the Avast One sub-forum as the program and UI's differ.
That said the virus definitions should be the same for both products.

If it is in quarantine you can send it from there for analysis.  I can't show how to get there as I use Avast Antivirus (not Avast One) and the UI could well be different.

In Avast Free you can create a folder and add it to the Avast exclusions (again I can't help with the Avast One UI) from Quarantine you should be able to Extract it there and send it to Avast.

You can use - Reporting a Possible False Positive File or Website - https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php (https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php).
You should get a response in a day or two.

It seems Avast has a problem with the exception function.  :(
Above a certain number of exceptions, it seems it won't add more. They don't appear in the settings menu.

After some testing, it seems that the Website-Exceptions-List only has 10 entries.
If more are added, only the last exception entry is shown.

The File/Folder-Exceptios-List seems not to having that limited maximum.

In exceptions, all my files are gone today. Was having issue since 3-4 days with JDownloader being quarantined each day, but the exception file list was still there. Today the list is gone, websites are still there.

Not exactly sure how/when file list dissapear. Sometimes the newly added stays there, other times, when you close and went back in the exceptions, the exception file list is gone.

Reported to Avast. Let's see if that helps.

Hello, from detection dialogs it can be seen, that the file name is different FreemakeVideoConverterFull_1.exe vs FreemakeVideoConverterFull_2.exe, exception from detection dialog is created to the exact file name. You can edit exception and use: FreemakeVideoConverterFull*.exe
