Title: Avast seems to be blocking my banking site.
Post by: stanleyrobertgould on September 23, 2022, 07:05:27 PM
This issue started 09/19/2022.
Tried accessing on both Chrome and edge - no go
I ran the Avast uninstall utility, rebooted and was able to access the bank's website.
I re-installed Avast. The website worked for a few days and now back to not being able to access the website.
The website is meridian.ca
Error is

This site can’t be reachedmeridian.ca refused to connect.
Try:

Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Turning off the Avast suite does not resolve the issue only uninstalling does.
 Ver info:
Program 22.9.6034 (build 22.9.7554.734)
Virus definitions 220923-4
UI 1.0.728

Please help. or I may have to switch to another provider if this continues. :(

Well I tried to connect and it would appear that there is a problem with the site as the notice I get is a Firefox one, see screenshot attached.

This is the same as you were getting, if avast were blocking I would have expected an avast alert or some kind of avast warning.

I'm Using Avast Free and no avast firewall only the Window firewall.

Are you sure the domain you gave is correct as I get some issues on other searches I have done:
See further attached images.

Though I did get some results on the domain:
Webpage Security Score F - https://snyk.io/test/website-scanner/?test=220923_AiDcWQ_DGY&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=webpagetest&utm_campaign=website-scanner

What "bank" are you trying to access? If it is Meridian Credit Union
then you should be using the URL meridiancu.ca

Care must always be taken to use the correct URL for financial transactions,
as hackers, etc. often use URLs that are very similar to the correct one.
They can then use cloned pages from the real site to steal login credentials,
etc.
