Title: test without Avast but MS Defender
Post by: Clemens-Ratte-Polle on October 05, 2022, 12:28:21 AM
Moin.
Is Microsoft Defender automatically active when i deactivate Avast Antivirus ?
I want to check if my PC runs faster with MS Antivir, because Avast uses the HD too heavily.
How could i securely test this without deinstallation?
thx

Only if you uninstall Avast or if you change Avast to Passive Mode.
Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting>
(https://d1ka0itfguscri.cloudfront.net/Lh/2022/10/05/00/38/c36hcBVtFiB/preview.jpg)

Once selected, restart the computer before testing.

Avast is now in passive mode and my system is running much smoother :)
MS Antivirus is active instead.

Before that my hardisk was used too intesively by system/ntoskrnl.exe and Avast, so everything was slow.
Now without Avast file scanning all feels fast :)

AVAST seems to be guilty of that not be 100% compatble with MS Windows.
In any case for my system.
How can i point Avast about this?

Two antivirus are generally not going to be compatible, if they are both active.  A little like two dogs fighting over one bone.

However that shouldn't happen with Windows as when you install another antivirus windows supposedly disables the windows defender antivirus function.

Why this appears to have been happening is beyond me.

What do you mean by file scanning, do you mean on-access or on-demand scanning ?

If you're having a problem with ntoskrnl.exe, blame Microsoft not Avast.
