Title: Avast doesn't block malware downloaded by IDM
Post by: ccm582 on October 20, 2022, 01:45:02 PM
I'm using Avast Beta 22.10.6038 (build 22.10.7633.734).

If I go to https://www.thepcmanwebsite.com/virus_test.shtml (https://www.thepcmanwebsite.com/virus_test.shtml) and if I use a download manager like Internet Download Manager (IDM) to download eicarcom2.zip from this website, Avast does not block the download. It allows the download but quarantines it when I open the zip file. It should block the download before reaching my computer. Kaspersky, Bitdefender and even Windows Defender blocks it before download.

Avast does block eicarcom2.zip if I disable IDM and let it download by browser.

Does Avast only monitor traffic in browsers and not in download managers? When IDM assembles the downloaded parts into one file, why doesn't Avast File Shield notice it when I set it to 'Scan All Files' and 'Scan files when writing'?

Avast File Shield should scan zip/compressed files too when 'writing' (i.e. when IDM is assembling the parts). And Avast Web Shield should scan zip/compressed files too when downloading.
