I've received a 'monthly email newsletter' from Avast; "The Download".
It this legit or phishing?
At any rate: I don't remember ever having opted in to this, and I regard it as spam.
I've now unsubscribed from everything and expect to never receive any more unsolicited mails, thanks.
-
Thanks for the new release :)

hi,
The bank mode does not open anymore (nothing happens) since the 22.12 update ... both by the AV UI or by ASB (v107 or today v108)
we are 3 (free and premium) users to have made this report in the French section.
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=322049.0
Are there any other (no french) users who encounter this issue?
-
Yes, had the same issue re browser not opening in bank mode after program update. Had to uninstall and reinstall, it's working now, hopefully it stays that way.
Also another issue, whenever I connect to the same wifi network, pop up appears telling me it's a new network. Shouldn't the firewall remember it's the same network? In firewall settings 'Networks' I'm up to 81. It logs the same network name then the number next to it representing the number of times i've connected in the last several weeks.

Had to uninstall and reinstall,
Avast browser or Avast AV ?
-
Browser.
-
I can confirm the problem and have reported it to Avast.

Bank Mode disappears before it opens. The tab shows for a few seconds, then disappears. I have done every step Avast lists, nothing works. And everything has been uninstalled, and installed, updated, restarted, the lot. I even did someone's suggestion to put Avast into passive mode, reboot. Nothing. I have tried to open it from all angles, and the tab shows for a few second then disappears. I would appreciate a fix for this. Thank you, joan

Which version of the Secure Browser and which version of Avast do you have installed?
You do need both installed for Banking Mode to work.

Avast Secure Browser and Avast free antivirus.
-
Avast Secure Browser is up to date
Version 107.0.19447.122 (Official Build) (64-bit)
and
Avast Free Antivirus 22.12.6044 (build 22.12.7758.765)

Drat! I forgot to download the offlien installer for Avast 22.11. Avast One also has this issue. How can I back-version that product?
Aaaah! The offline installer is still available via the version update post in November. This highlights that Avast One users lack the offline installer luxury.
-
Hi,
Bank Mode still disappearing/not working.
Avast Secure Browser Version Version Version 108.0.19614.99 (Official Build) (64-bit)
and
Avast Free Antivirus 22.12.6044 (build 22.12.7758.765)
Both updated.
(On a Windows 10 laptop, new hard drive a few months back, working well).
If you need any more details, I will post.
Would the offline installer work instead?
Please Avast I hope you have a solution for this soon, Thank you, joan

I confirmed from my end repaired twice and reinstalled twice, bank mode isn't working at all on W8.1 64 bit.
-
a member of the French forum just said that ASB must be configured as the default browser for the bank mode to work.
I just checked and it's correct.
But I didn't like it at all >:( hopefully it was just unintentional from avast side.

Bummer!! I'm sticking to Firefox shame on Avast

That's indeed a bug, definitely not intentional.

Thanks for your attention Igor, I can't believe you're STILL around and still with Avast after so many years.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas

My Fix for Bank Mode:
The only way I found to keep bank mode, (because this new update has sffected the bank mode0, working was:
1. I did a system restore to before the new avast premium security update.
2. once the restore completed successfuly, I Opened the avast Premium security app, went to settings and set the program update to "I will update manually"
This allows me to stop an automatic update to this glitched new update.
So far Bank mode stays working for me.
So, I'll wait for avast to fix this issue that's been going for the last 10 days.

Hi,
for info the bank mode came back to me following the avast update (22.12.6044 (version 22.12.7758.768)) last night....without ASB being my default browser ;)
Thanks :D

It was a bug that Avast has now fixed. There is no requirement to make Secure Browser the default in order
to use banking mode.

I understood, I was just giving the info that the bug was fixed (with or without ASB as default browser) ;)

I am facing an unusual issue with Google websites on Firefox 108.0.2 (64-bit) since Avast's 12/22 update; all Google websites are throttled or completely blocked because of Avast Free Antivirus Web Shield.
What I tried:
1-Opening FF in troubleshooting mode.
2-Using another profile with FF.
3-Refreshed FF installation.
4-Uninstalled then reinstalled Avast Free AV.
5-Used Avast Clear Clear to uninstall then reinstalled.
6- Added exception for FF in the Exception section.
7- Added an Allow-All rule in Avast Firewall for FF.
8- Disabled Avast Web Shield (WORKED)
Note: All Google websites work seamlessly on Google Chrome.
EDIT: Here's a link of a video https://streamable.com/z5k1e7

@ Rofi
Firefox is my default browser (version 108.0.2) and I'm not experiencing the problem you mention. I don't use the Avast Firewall but the Windows Firewall, you could try that.
The reason I suggest this is, the Web Shield shouldn't block as such, but alert is that what is happening ?
Many people won't visit unknown 3rd party content. I did and in all honesty it doesn't help other than show your browsing habits (which may have their own issues.
I'm keeping up to date with the ongoing Ukrainian war and I don't have any issues browsing with Firefox on you tube, tictoc, redit, etc. etc.
Most of the issues here relate to the Avast Secure Browser (Chromium based browser) relating to Bank Mode.
So I don't know if it wouldn't be better to create a new topic for your issue, as it may get buried in this topic.
-
I tried disabling Avast Firewall, but the problem persisted.
I don't get any alerts when I face the issue described in my post. As you can see in the video; the moment I disable the web shield Google web sites instantly load.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will make a new thread instead.
-
Unfortunately, I didn't find the video of any help. Certainly not to try and investigate why you are experiencing the problem, when essentially with the same setup I'm not experiencing any issue.

Apparently. I found a solution. I changed my DNS server from Google's 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4 to my ISP's and viola; all Google websites load normally after a system reboot.
If you are still interested, you can try to reproduce the problem using Google's DNS servers mentioned above.
Thanks for trying to help. :-*

You're welcome.
Thanks for the confirmation.

In the new release (the next one that will be published or the following ones) is there a "reduction" of the use of the harddisk (not the solid one) during the PC startup phase?
This optimization should be done. ;)

Would you care to clarify as the above comment "is there a "reduction" of the use of the harddisk (not the solid one) ?
Do you mean HDD or SSD and by reduction do you mean total space required for installation as it isn't clear what you are asking. As 'During Startup' doesn't really go with any of the above, as during startup Avast should be monitoring computer usage which shouldn't require additional drive space other than for logs. Scanning if extraction is required may/could be done in RAM.
-
Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. :)
I was talking about HDD and I meant the Avast processes that are running, using a high percentage of hard disk during the PC startup phase.
-
I honestly don't know how running processes are using a high percentage/usage of HDD 'space' and you don't say what processes.
Unless these are update processes, program updates, virus definitions and engine updates or Emergency updates. Then much of the activity may occur in memory.
I feel that this would probably be better served in its own new topic.

I think that has already been tried.

Ok. Sorry

But since January is almost over, will the official February version(23.2.xxx) arrive directly?

But since January is almost over, will the official February version(23.2.xxx) arrive directly?
You only have to look in the beta sub-forums to see this isn't the case. Given that Christmas and New year is likely to have delayed, in that beta version 23.1.6045 was only released on the 18 January 2023. The current beta version, 23.1.6047 was only released on 21 January 2023.
So that would follow the regular release would be 23.1.xxxx 'when it is ready', there is no hard and fast one release per month.
