Title: why will Avast Hub updates be made during working hours?
Post by: Tom610 on January 11, 2023, 11:49:08 AM
Hello Avast,

today and before: Hub updates are made during working hours... is that really necessary? At least this is what we are going to experienceing here in germany. Maybe the updates are initiatet from a diffrent location with diffrent time zone.
Anyway this is pretty bad stuff since I regulary have complaining customers about hub problems during that time. If it would be at least the way that the hub is locked.

Pretty bad change management from the view of partners and customers!

Hello, program and virus definition updates are downloaded once they are available.

Virus definition updates are installed immediately. Program updates are finished with installation after a computer restart.

Computer restarts are requested on the endpoint device by a small dialog which shows up only outside your working hours, by default we do that after 22:00 in your local time zone.

You can set your custom working hours in your business hub policy.

Hope that helps.

Are your customers just generally confused about business hub not being available or do they have specific technical issues with their endpoint devices? Either way can you please give an example what are your customers reporting? Thank you.

Tom the issue is that the Hub will just be not available, or there are error messages displayed trying to access some functions like policies. So it was last time updateing the hub to 8.60.

I was in the middle of troubleshooting, hub was working first but than I wanted to access the policies and *bam*, something like: The hub is under maintenance, pleas try again later.

Since a few days we get mails now when maintanence is happenning but since the beginning using the hub, as of may 2021, the main updates for the hub where done during working hours, at least here in germany. And so far as I've seen those mails lately it is mostly CC related...
I don't know the basic avast policy for this, or if there is anything like this at all... All I can say that for Cloud Care this was handled much better and always in advance of such updates. Why can't this be adoptet do the hub as well?

Upcoming scheduled maintenance notice

We will be undergoing scheduled maintenance during this time.
The Avast Business Hub and AVG Business Cloud Consoles will be inaccessible.
Endpoint services remain unaffected.

Start time: Feb 9, 01:00 EST.

Estimated duration: 1 hour.

I noticed this, and I will be watching this further... but: Those mails where sent in the past but not in every case of an hub update!
So I'm not convinced, that this is the new standard as of now. And the update today was not an hub update... no new release.

We'll see...

Update on feburary 22nd: Seems that Avast is reading here or it just happened by coincidence that they send also mails for the hub now...
Anyway, thats how I expect that, keep going!  ;)
