Did a scan recently and HTML:RedirBA-inf [Trj] was detected. Googled it and nothing of help came up except that it is a ''false positive''. Help appreciated as I'm not familiar with this topic.

You cant say that just from the detection name
More info,what file, where was it found ……. Check file at virustotal.com ….

i found it in my google chrome cache folder, am on mac

Start by clearing your Chrome browser cache.
If you were actually trying to connect to a site with that issue, you would get an Avast Web Shield alert. So this is something that was dormant, rather than active and may not have been considered suspect at that time.

it was my first scan since going back to avast from malwarebytes and i instantly got that detection. i cleared cache first by using the browsers own tool and then by manually doing it, and at last using a cleaner application called opyx.

You could now try another scan and see if anything is picked up.
Whilst I don't use a Mac, I think this would apply there also.
With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.
In your case it would only be if that browser cached item were still present and initiated, then if this redirect occurred, it should cause the Web Shield to alert.
Personally I rarely ever use the on-demand scans, usually this is as a result an enquiry in the forums.

i did a scan after doing some removing and it did not bring up anything
