Title: Windows update issues
Post by: loungehake on March 17, 2023, 11:40:39 AM
This month (March 2023), I have noticed problems with Windows Updates, not the updates themselves but the process of preparing and carrying out the installation. I have a notion that SecureBrowser might be a significant factor and am wondering if other users of SecureBrowser have also had problems.  My suspicion is that Secure Browser has interfered with the Windows update process.  I also have a vague suspicion that Secure Browser might have been causing SFC (System File Check) to find problems which it then fixed.

What evidence I have seen is circumstantial but I have not observed problems with systems which have not had Secure Browser installed on them.  It would be good to have a tool to ensure that Secure Browser is thoroughly cleaned out.

The browser has nothing to do with windows updates. No browser is used when the update is downloaded and installed.
My system Windows 11 has all the major browsers installed including the Avast Secure Browser. There aren't any Windows update problems
on this system or the other 3 computers that are updated with both the preview builds of windows 11 and the regular patch Tuesday updates. If you have a problem, your looking in the wrong place.

I was considering the possibility that Avast Secure Browser gets deeper inside Windows than an ordinary web browser because of its connections with Avast security.

I have been disincentivised from using Secure Browser because its unpredictable behaviour. Little (but important) details like HTTPS enforcement, or rather the apparent lack of it, have not helped me to persevere.
