It's the second time. The last two major critical Windows Vista Update installation have failed with Comodo firewall (v.276) ON. Only way to succeed the UPDATE is to return to Windows Vista Firewall and to completely remove COMODO FIREWALL which is not recognized by MICROSOFT. Well, in this case, it kills it for me!!! Do I have to re-install it each time after and re-download my updates three to four times to understand. Tech was right!!! Their support is rotten and they let in what they want!!! >:(
-
Despite this problem, they are still singing Comodo's praises..... ::)
-
No more Comodo on Vista. I'm really considering if I will keep on XP... but it's working, I won't fix. On Vista, just troubles.
-
I wanted to install Windows Vista Firewall Control (September 2007) but I haven't understood if I have to disable the build-in Vista Firewall. Then I found it rather complicated. I choose instead the ligth PCTools Plus firewall hoping it won't interfere with the MICROSOFT CRITICAL UPDATES (WOOFFF!!!). Only problem, after succeeding with the Updates and uninstalling Comodo, my already installed WOT and SITE ADVISOR plug-ins in FIREFOX asked me to accept their terms and conditions again. Then Firefox was acting as if it was newly installed (asked me if to send information over the net, etc...) Weird... !!! I'll do some scanning for spywares tonight. ???
-
Weird indeed!!! In firefox, something unchecked the delete personal information and data square in options!!! :o

Hmmm... better be sure you're clean...
Removing the automatic cleaning of temporary files seems suspect...

Hi!!! I had v. 3 (latestv.276). I followed your link and as it says the only way around is to COMPLETELY REMOVE the COMODO FIREWALL. This is unacceptable! They should make sure every Windows Update installation is not interfered. Can't dig Comodo for what they did to me today!!! :P

Yes cgpmaster, I tried to disable DEFENSE+ but this system is so strong and powerful that the only solution is to remove the COMODO FIREWALL completely for sure. PC Tool Plus Firewall is user friendly and I hope without problems with the Updates but I'm not an expert to recommend it... Hope AILWIL (AVAST) is not taking too much of an example COMODO FIREWALL for it's next firewall (hopefully soon!!!). Be sure to be in close touch with Microsoft (what a shame Comodo!!!). :o

cgpmaster, you are a lucky one. Have you installed today's updates? :-X

Well you are lucky!!! Anyhow, I think many Comodo 3 Firewall users experienced some of these installations problems on Vista and it is reported on their forum. So far, it is sad to say they haven't found any cure! :-[

Sometimes,it gets a bit tedious, hearing Vista users, complaing about other programs not working on their computers. What did you expect :o .Personally, I wouldn't have Vista if it were free.If Comodo causes problems, find a firewall that doesn't.

I am thinking of going back to XP x64 or Pro,
Vista Has To Many Errors for Too Many Programs...
-
Well, you never know in what you put your feet into!!! Yes, I'm not happy with my Vista Home edition. Its added protection is completely silly and it is sooo slowww I wonder why not keep Win98 or 95. Comodo seemed great until it broke my b... on this pc with Windows Update. They filter their forums, when the posts are too negative to them, well "kaput"!... Then it is absolutely unstable, meaning it may go well on a computer 1-2 months then give some hassle while other computers with the same OS are behaving well. As long as PCTOOLS FIREWALL PLUS works as well as Comodo, it's OK for me! 8)

But mine was ;D Avast was ready along with Superantispyware but that was all, after a year I have still not found a firewall that works. But the software developers had time and they did know it was coming. They could use the beta and RC copies to verify their programmes, I tried Comodo and it blocked updates and at times I was unable to connect to the net. ZA took over my system and pctools wouldn't install properly. But the windows firewall and my router firewall along with Avast are keeping me safe

Apparently, a fix is on the way.In the mean time a temporary fix is available,if you cannot wait.I think you have to log in to get the attatchment link.https://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/windows_update_fails_with_comodo_merged_threads-t18125.0.html;msg124072#msg124072 (https://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/windows_update_fails_with_comodo_merged_threads-t18125.0.html;msg124072#msg124072)

Hi Guys,
We are going to fix this issue asap and issue an update to CFP 3. But until we release the fix, the following steps must pprovide a temporary solution:
TEMPORARY FIX 1 :
1 - Download the file cfpfix.zip in the attachment
2 - Extract the archive into a folder e.g. c:\CFPFix
3 - Disable Defense+ by going Defense+->Advanced->Defense+ Settings and setting Defense+ Security Level slider to Disable.
4 - Right click on c:\CFPFix\update.bat file and Select "Run as administrator" option
5 - After seeing "Done...Please restart your computer and update your windows.", restart your PC
After these 5 steps, Windows updates should work without a problem.
During this time, CFP Defense+ will be disabled and unfunctional. So as soon as the updates are completed, please perform the following steps:
1 - Right click c:\CFPFix\restore.bat and Select "Run as Administrator" option
2 - After seeing "Done..Please restart your computer", restart your computer
3 - Please verify CFP is functioning properly by opening CFP and looking at Summary screen for any error reports.
4 - Enable Defense+ by going "Defense+->Advanced->Defense+ Settings"
What Temporary Fix 1 does, is simply renaming the CFP sandbox driver and effectively disabling it. After the updates are completed, it is restored.
TEMPORARY FIX 2 :
This fix is verified to work with some users:
1 - Go to Defense+->Advanced->Defense+ Settings and select "Deactivate Defense+ PErmanently" option
2 - Restart your computer and retry the updates.
3 - After the updates are completed, reacrtivate the Defense+ and restart your computer.
We are currently working on the fixes which will solve these problems.
Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

Tried "TEMPORARY FIX 2" with no success last time. Won't try "TEMPORARY FIX 1", don't want to be deceived (why insist?...). My post as gdiloren was removed in their forum a few days ago, does it tell you something about Comodo? ???

I think fix1 is the end of the problem.
A few posts by me was removed too, and i'll send a PM if in the future a post by me is removed asking why.
I translated v2.4, and now i'll translate v3 to spanish and catalan.

Sounds like praise is the only acceptable post. :o

Hi bob3160,
What kind of attitude is that or is it because of a lack of solutions? By the way I am not a critic of Comodo's, but again it is not flawless, and besides complicated. I thought a good policy always was to learn from one's mistakes, but to-day that is often taken as showing a weak posture. No modesty anymore, eeh.. no arrogance is the way to go,

Well, I did have CFP at one time. But, because of a perk at the place where I work I am using CA firewall. Our customers are using it and my employers wanted me to use it to be able to provide tech support. So far I like the program but it's NOT free. ;)
-
Unfortunately CA's firewall doesn't have such a good rating.
Even PC Tools Firewall Plus is rated higher and it's by no means perfect.

Hi bob3160,
You are old enough, and I am nearly as old enough to know, we do not live in an ideal world,

Sorry about that, when I first did it,it worked, then later when I tried I got the same message as you.The link I posted was the actual reply from Comodo staff.I will try and post the whole thread, the attatchment was in reply number 68.Also I have just had an update alert for Comodo (funny, I still had to open the program and click check for updates, before it downloaded ) I now have version 3.0.15.277,so thats probably the permanent fix to this issue ( hopefully )http://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/windows_update_fails_with_comodo_merged_threads-t16987.0.html (http://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/windows_update_fails_with_comodo_merged_threads-t16987.0.html)

What p*ssed me up is when I invoke Comodo updates and it says the software is up-to-date even with 3.0.13 version... Fixes? Patches? Another Comodo nightmare...

Just what version do you have ? 3.0..13 is fairly old isn't it ? 3.0.14.276 has been out since December 12, the newest version is 3.0.15.277.Did you install the upgrade patch from 3.0.13.268 or 3.0.12.266 or completely uninstall/reinstall as required to version 3.0.14.276
-
completely uninstall/reinstall as required to version 3.0.14.276
That is what make me mad... I hate to do so and did not upgrade, losing settings, etc.
-
With PcTools FirewallPlus, one week old, was forced to do a clean removal to install their new 0.60 version since the smat update wasn't working. It gets on your nerves!!! ;D

Tech,as far as I know if you have version 3.0.13.268 or earlier, you will not be able to update anymore. You have to apply the upgrade patch ( not recommended )or uninstall/reinstall to the latest version. I can understand your frustration with Vista and Comodo V3,but V3 is fairly new, and has a few blips, but I think the bugs will eventually be ironed out.But there is no point in trying to obtain updates (AFAIK) if you are stuck on 3.0.13.268.I hope you sort things out :)

With CMF 3 you can export your settings before uninstall( Miscellaneous>> Manage my configurations). After uninstall you can import settings.

Smart Updates are mostly for updates, new versions usually require installs because of differences in the software. Note avast! has VPS updates & a separate link for program updates.

I agree!! Then, it should be like in AVAST, a link for the def. and one for the programs. :o
