Avast Secure Browser is up to date
Version 121.0.23801.87 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Is Startpage supposed to be the new default search engine?  Can I not use DuckDuckGo anymore? I feel like Secure Browser has been hijacked.

Hi Lpcast

Just updated Avast Secure Browser to version 121.0.23861.160 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Go to 3 dots>Settings>Search Engine and click 'Activate' to make duckduckgo the default home page again.

You may have to do this every time ASB is updated.

See screenshots below.

Thanks for responding, but just like in your 2nd screen image "make default" is dimmed for every way I try to add DuckDuckGo.  The new update added back Yahoo! and Bing that I'd deleted 2 days ago but won't let me add DDG.  I'm surprised no-one else is concerned about this yet.  I know DDG is related to Microsoft, but if Startpage is intended to be default search engine please comfort us by telling us why.  Older reviews of it on this forum from years ago were critical of it.

Sorry you've issues you shouldn't have.

Perhaps if you remove Avast DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extension, reboot browser and then install new version, you might have the option to put DuckDuckGo as home page again?

Other option would be to reset ASB to default settings and reboot browser after.  Worked?

[EDIT]  Be sure to back up all bookmarks and passwords before you reset.  You could lose all data when you reset.
