I understand why applications use multiple processes, but lately I have noticed that when I start my computer, Avast Secure Browser runs anywhere from 3 to 16 processes and eats up disk space even though I have not started the application. In other words, it acts very much like a virus. If I try to end the process through my task manager, I have no success. Why is Avast Secure Browser running multiple processes even though the application is not in use? I am seriously considering uninstalling the program, as this is both annoying and worrisome.

Hello.
You could have a setting enabled that should be disabled in Settings>On Startup.
If it is, move the slider to the off position.
I show about 14 processes running with a single ASB window open and visible.
