No my friend... I can't stop doing that. But... if you guys don't want me to make any more skins, just say it. I don't wanna annoy anyone with this.

I saw some ugly reviews about "gamey" skins for avast! etc. so I decided to make one skin looking little bit more professinal... I don't know if I succeded...

Cheers!

Ok now this one really kickz assss. Now if anyone says just . that avast looks unprofessional,i'll beat him by myself.

I would give this skin more than pure 10,its simply that good :D

Maybe if you try to move buttons like this, just recommendation ;) ,otherwise its very cool:

I know what you mean... It would look much more centered. I tried it first time... but, there is no chance to move them over there... why?

'cause I need that area for sliding panels... you remember ? Those 3 sliding panels like in every other skin.

Cheers !

Hey Slovenia !!!

Take a look at this one... I hope you'll like it now, 'cause I really must save some space for those sliding panels. I think that semi-transparent blue line looks very nice in there. I moved function buttons little bit lower on the screen and those Play and Stop buttons are aligned vertically now...

Cheers!

Ok function buttons are in perfect position now,but those two Play/Stop buttons look like they don't belong there.
What if you'd move them into line where avast! www address is and a big avast! Antivirus title on top that gives very professional look.

Something like this...
Title: Re:New avast! skin for Professionals

Argh not again...
Title: Re:New avast! skin for Professionals
Post by: S.Z.Craftec on March 13, 2004, 07:54:22 PM
Not a chance...

If you take a look very carefully at all other skins, you'll  notice that those display information and avast! www address are always in the same place. It's in the code, and I can not move www address or any of those process information separately. I can choose between size of display area and position where I want display area to be placed on the screen, but moving just www address is not possible...
Title: Re:New avast! skin for Professionals
Post by: RejZoR on March 13, 2004, 08:11:15 PM
Hm,than use a little trick, place Play button on the left of the www address and Stop button on the right of the www address.
Its enough space on both sides and you'll still have the address there :)

Not possible RejZor...

Go into avast! no matter what skin you're using. Just hover with your mouse pointer over whole area left and right of www address... you'll see that whole area is reserved for www address... just like one very wide link... it makes me unable to use that area for some other link or button...

I'll make something else, and I think I'll leave it that way... I need just few more minutes...

Cheers !

Nice work... Nobody will be allowed to say that avast! is not 'professional' anymore...
When will I receive my dedicated skin?  ;D
Good work Sasha, when you 'start' my one, remember, let's make the minimalist... Wow  :o

Ok this is probably the last version and i hope its no limitations to this :)

Here's the example:

Don't know, but i think that avast! 3D text looks too gamey and Start/Stop buttons are still not in the perfect place...
I know you're working hard,but you know...
Title: Re:New avast! skin for Professionals
Post by: S.Z.Craftec on March 13, 2004, 08:59:03 PM
3D logo can't look "gamey". It's standard Tahoma font and I think it looks professional enough to leave it there...

Start and Stop buttons... I think it's the only logical place where I should leave those buttons. Below all other function buttons... and I still have enough room to place those sliding windows...

Cheers !

P.S. "avast! Antivirus" sign in your previous post looks just like all other antivirus programs. Kinda ordinary, and I don't want to loose my originality because of some let's call it "standard" antivirus look. I think it's good now, no "gamey" signs at all...

Technical... I was thinking of minimal-style skin a lot. O-Sti-X skin is pretty small. the biggest problem is Display area. No matter how small skin I design, I'll always need pretty wide area reserved for displaying scanning info... You see, for example, O-Sti-X skin, as it's name says, is like a little stick. I could make even smaller command/button area (in hight), but still, display area will be quite large...

Anyway, my Brasilian friend... this is what I came up 2 minutes ago... this one is dedicated to you, hehe  ;D

OK, RejZor my friend... I'm going to prove you that I like to listen my friends and avast! users...

This is final version of "Professional skin". I considered few things that you pointed, so I came up with this. I think, this one would be OK and you'll like it very much...

I Just need to design those sliding panels (I have simple, but nice idea...  ;) ) and skin will be ready for publishing... of course if Vlk and rest of Alwil guys approve it.

Cheers !

Hey, how about doing one in the free Home Edition with a Star Wars Theme? Or better yet, i'll plead with you on this one as its a all time favorite hardly found anymore, at least here in the USA, BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA, and by the way a friend from Edmonton, Alberta tells me Lorne Greene alia Commander Adama was a Canadian! What a tremendous tribute it would be to his memory & that of the loyal remaining followers of that TV series. Thanks.

Sasha, suggestions (if posible, I don't know, you rule in skins not I):
1. Remove the text explanation of the buttons (remain just the 3D style and the common meaning of them, everybody will understand I suppose).

2. The display area could be 'hidden'? I mean, like a window that is shown and goes back 'into' the skin again (like the blue panel that appears and goes away after a VPS update but, in the skin, the panel will be back if the user 'calls' it, right click the skin, etc.). Do you understand (my English is not good today...).

3. About the other skins suggestions, just remember the Copyrights stuff that we discussed about Matrix.

4. About the 'professional' skin it's perfect like all other that you did  ;D
Title: Re:New avast! skin for Professionals
Post by: S.Z.Craftec on March 14, 2004, 06:28:16 AM
1. If I remove that text, I'm sure skin will look like nothing... totally empty. too much space to place just those little icons. And I think everything looks much more professional with text. It's not my fault. Maybe Alwil should put those words inside their code, so when user change default language, all those commands would be on his language and undestandable for him...

2. If I undestood you well, you want display area to be hidden... Anyway, all those scanning information are all the time visible and on the screen. Why would you want display area to be hidden ?

3. Copyright issue ? What's that have to do with this skin ? All those graphics you can see on this skin are 150% mine and drawn by me. I never took anyone else's work and pretend that is mine, I would never do that... I hate people who steal other people's work... Don't worry about that Technical... 3D avast! logo I made using Swift 3D, LCD flat monitor is my friend's monitor - photo was taken with his Olympus digital camera. Planet Earth sphere was made by me 6 or 7 years ago using Real3D (Good old Amiga 1200). Picture of little virus in between LCD and planet Earth I scanned out from my very old biology book from elementary school... that gentleman who wrote that book is my ex biology professor and still my very good friend. I don't think he's gonna be mad about this one,  ;) The only one who can sue me is Martin...  'cause I keep using his wonderful avast! command icons  ;D Hello my friend Martin !!! I'm still waiting for that letter/e-mail you promised me !  ::)

4.) No it's not perfect, nor the others. I like them a lot, but I'm aware that those are not perfect... that's the fact. I always think I could make those better than they are right now...

Cheers !

Can't you just take off that words? Let just the icons. This is the minimalist concept (I'm not thinking in the professional one, but in the minimalist).

2. If I undestood you well, you want display area to be hidden... Anyway, all those scanning information are all the time visible and on the screen. Why would you want display area to be hidden ?

I don't want that information all the time, the minimalist skin could show only when the user wants, for instance, right click the skin or pass the mouse over it. That was I mean.

I'm not an expert about these things. Do you remember Matrix skin and the raman's posts?

Ahahahahahahaha...  ;D oh, my God Technical... you made me laught like crazy my friend !  ;D You meant on that little minimalistic skin... I got it now. Why I was laughing ? Because, it's not skin. It's just my stupid idea and 2 and a half minutes drawing in Fireworks... not skin at all... I was playing and joking around my friend, but I may come up with something in the future, who knows...

Copyrights again... not problema at all. What's the problem with Matrix skin ? Have you noticed that skin is out and available for downloading for so long time by now ? No problems at all, especially 'cause I put some Copyright signs on the skin. I'll reapeat myself - all those GFX were completely done by me. If I use something that is someone else's copyright, I always make sure that I put Copyright notice... and what's most important of all, I don't make any money on this, so no one can sue me... for what ? Got it now my friend ?

By the way... project is completely finished and it's fully working skin now ! I tested it for almost last 8 hours, everything works just wonderful ! I'm so happy !

This skin is called "Lite-On by SZCraftec". I put few new things inside this skin, for example - semi-transparent sliding panels.

I just hope you guys and girls (CoJo)  ;D will like it a lot. I hope no one can say avast! looks too "gamey" now.  ::) If you feel sick of all those "gamey" skins, I have a cure for that... DO NOT USE THOSE SKINS ! or even better, use those which looks much more professional... how simple is that, ha ?

Cheers people !

P.S. I'll send this skin to Vlk this evening, and all we can do is just wait for Vlk to upload it in skins download section...

That's partly true CoJo... I respect females so much that I call them girls, no matter how old they are. They are always pretty, inside and outside. They are much softer then we men are. We are like trees, and women are like flowers... they are sillky, soft and nice smelling. If there are no those wonderful creatures in this world, I would hang myself...

I would send you Flower delivery smilie, but there is no smilie like that in our smilie pharm... haha, pharm is right word.. just look at them when you write your posts... they are smiling and blinking just like sweet little piggies...  :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'(

Well, that's because you can't install that skin at this point. If you read carefully my first post regarding that skin, you'll see that this is still some kind of preview. Always, always, I send my skins to Alwil programmers to do some final tests, although I tested all of them million times. After that, they will aprove it and upload it in avast! skins download section. Skin is ready for publishing, I sent it to Vlk, and all we have to do now is wait for Vlk to upload it up there...

Then you'll be able to download it and install it...

I hope this helped a bit.

Cheers !

Thanks guys for your comments. Your comments are always welcome !

I had to change some minor things in skin, and I'm little bit sad 'cause I had to remove that little nice 3D avast! logo that I made especially for this skin... Vlk sent me an e-mail and he told me that skin would look much more professional if I put just "avast! Antivirus" words instead of 3D logo. He doesn't force me to do some changes. He never does it, but I like to hear all users and Alwil programmers and their opinions...so I replaced 3D logo with standard words. It's not nice like it was before, but it looks kinda more professional... really.

Regards !

Title: Re:New avast! skin for Professionals
Post by: S.Z.Craftec on March 16, 2004, 04:49:37 AM
I share exactly the same opinion like you my friend, but what can i do... they don't like 3D logo, and I don't want to argue with no one... I'll just give them what they want. I still think, 3D logo was something that would leave this skin still looking professional, and in the same time it would give avast! a dose of something "better" and "different" from all other professional looking skins for some other antivirus products... that 3D logo was so unnoticeable, nice pastel colors, semi-transparent... didn't ruined skin at all... correct me if I'm wrong. But, anyway, it seems like people still love traditional look more than something unique and "different".

I should make a poll, just to see what avast! users think of that change. Finally, all those skins I made for avast! (not Norton  ;D ) users, so it matters a lot to me what users have to say... maybe I should do that, it's my right to make a poll, right ?

Regards !

You should really design to how you like it. If you try to make it how everyone likes it you'll never finish. :p

Regards !

S.Z.Craftec,

Take my advice there are a lot people who don't understand about creative art when it comes to skins, people like you who created art and believe what they see in their mind and to bring it outside in the real world for people to see is call "The Great World of Art".

If they was no art to believe what people can see and their is nothing you can share to make them believe you can see, if you believe what you can see and other people can't believe what they can see than their no art at all.

You got to try and make them to believe your work of art, they have to see it, believe it and understand how The Great World of Art is all about. I can see your work and I believe your work and it natural.

Put that Bloody 3D Font back on that is creative art, and it look bloody fantasist.

Thanks guys for your support, I'm grateful to you ! But, I think it's not enough just to tell me. You have to contact my "boss" Vlk. I appreciate Vlk's opinion very, very much, so if you manage somehow to make Vlk want that 3D logo back, I'll do it in a matter of seconds... well, I have to go to work today, so it will take up some time... it's very hard to do all those things in the same time, especially 'cause the fact is, I'm always "on the road"... Last 6 days, I made exactly 1050 km with my car visiting Canacomp's customers, fixing their network, software, hardware problems. I believe you can understand me a bit... I'll give my best to replace that logo if just Vlk and guys from Alwil approves it...

I hope we can do that together...  ;)

Sasha

EDIT: I just came up to conclusion that sometimes simple things are the best things. This skin should be true professional skin, for those who doesn't like those fancy-shancy graphics. I think that there is a lot of nice graphics inside this skin already even without that 3D logo... so no one should cry if I just wipe it out and put simple words just as my friend Vlk said. For all those who are looking for mega-heavy graphics in skins, download section is available, there is a lot of skins, and what's the best - downloading is free ! So common people, take a look in there, make up your mind and download what's best for your needs !

Regards to everyone !
