Title: System tray icon always gray - never blue
Post by: the_dread on January 21, 2008, 03:04:11 AM
Why is the Avast system tray icon always gray?

I just reinstalled Avast 4.7 home edition and the icon was blue for 1 second then turned permanently gray.  I think it did the same thing when I first installed Avast a couple years ago. The notice after install says that the icon should be blue and that a gray icon indicates that Avast is "waiting for something".

All 7 Avast resident modules are active when I run MS Outlook 2003.  Without running Outlook only 6 Avast resident modules are active - the Outlook/Exchange module is off.  I figure this is normal.

I'm running Win XP with Zone Alarm Pro set with anti-spyware on.  I use MS Office 2003.  Avast is my only resident anti-virus program.  I haven't had any indications of problems with Zone Alarm.

Try to turn off Zone Alarm because it might block avast form working or download again a new avast program and reinstall.(From my newbie experience)

Yes, it really may be Zone Alarm Pro, but... What AV protection did you had before avast? Have you removed it fully?
