 A little confused:
                                what's the difference between "internet mail and outlook/exchange"? Is the outllook referring to outlook express or the office outlook? My provider settings say that it is waiting for a subsystem to start when i elect to use outook/exchange but is working well with just the internet mail provider .

This provider affects MS Outlook and MS Exchange mail clients only...not outlook express....

you can remove it if you are not using it...

to remove......goto control panel.....add/remove programs....select avast...change.....cross out outlook/exchange provider...
