Title: A reputable freeware key logger compatible with Avast 4.7 home version?
Post by: Winxp on March 17, 2008, 03:59:41 AM
I am after a freeware  key logger which is compatible with Avast 4.7 home version.
I was thinking about downloading Actual Keylogger...http://www.download.com/Actual-Keylogger/3640-2092_4-10414894.html?pn=3&sb=0&v=0
but the reviews of this software indicate that it is picked up by Avast and other antivirus software as a virus.
Any recommendations?

Also, can freeware/shareware key loggers pose a security risk...by gathering and storing information of a users activities which can then be retrieved by unauthorized persons or even the key logger software company,  without the user of the product knowing...i.e. how do you know that the key logger freeware software which one has downloaded, is not in fact actually spying/profiling you? Are there any recommended freeware  key logger programs available which are reputable, safe, and non-spyware?

To avoid avast detection, you need to use the Exclusion lists:

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the 'a' blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button...

For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the 'a' blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button...

You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should 'exclude' that many files that let your system in danger.
