Question is:Is it better to have an integrated antispyware-antirootkit-AV integrated or to have them alone? In terms of "HIGHER" EFFICIENCY I mean. You may say as long as it does the job but would a standalone be better in detecting malware? ???
-
Thanks and keep up the great work with this wonderful program. ;D
-
Hi Vlk and AVAST TEAM.
I would also like to say once again you have excelled.
Thanks once again for an easy update and a great product.
Cheers peter

Many Thanks, Running fine on Vista sp-1

Ppl say layered defense is better. I call that BS. It's the tech and the way how you protect stuff.
I don't know how good anti-spyware is in avast! but anti-rootkit tech is top of the line.
-
Working perfectly over here, no more long boots ...
-
Many Thanks to the ALWIL Software team for delivering such an outstanding product. 4.8 Working like a charm. Cheers ;D
Thanks again
-
Great programmers - great program!
I love Avast! ;D
Enjoyed betatesting - i hope, we are also allowed to betatest avast! 5 ;)

Thank you for this!
Been running on a fudged installation of 4.7 (only way it'd work); just updated and it now seems to be back to normal (the Add/Remove had only Remove and now it has all the entries).
Great relief!
-
Congratulation to AVAST team and thank you.
-
Cool!
Thanks Vlk!
Many thanks to Alwil Team! ;)
-
Thanks Alwil team. Working smoothly into Vista Business 32bits.

??? If the tech is not enough to protect you, why not having a 2nd layer?

I wish the problem of slow computer start up with 4.8 would've been fixed before being "OFFICIALLY RELEASED".
Hopefully it will be fixed soon. My system with 2.2 gig Celeron & 448 mb RAM strains at start up (between 5-6 minutes).
-
I'll be watching the threads for a week to see if much problems reported before I install 4.8. Looks an interesting upgrade though particularly the rootkit module so well done the Alwil boys.
-
thanks avast!team for the version 4.8.-running great on my hp laptop which has windows xp and the one below in my signature which has vista ;)

There really isn't any reason to wait as the Pros outweigh any possible niggles (if they turn up) the beta trial went well and there were 4 beta releases to fix what was found. So I would say get in before the crowd.
-
I've tried it: unfortunately avast 4.8 home identifies a lot of false positive... I was forced to uninstall it :-(

Wow... I can't see avast detecting as much as false positives as you've seeing... are you sure they're false positives?
Can you send the files to virus (at) avast (dot) com saying why do you think they're false positives and they can analyze them? Thanks.
-
First of all, post a few examples of the filenames you think are false positives...
(and the reported virus names as well)

Thanks

I relented and took David's advice to update now :) Very smooth taking just 70 seconds. Am I right in understanding that if I wanted to perform just a rootkit scan, I just need to restart my laptop?

if you restart your laptop only a quick scan will be performed - if you use professional version you can start a rootkitscan via the enhanced user interface...
the rootkitscan also will be done if you perform a normal system scan...
or you wait for the Antirootkit Standalone-tool ;)
-
Thankyou onlysomeone (are you on the Alwil team, by the way, as you seem to be replying to a lot of recent queries?). I have the Home free version so it's the paid for Professional version that has the separate rootkit scanning module/options.

We aren't really supposed to ask questions in this notification topic (it will get bogged down/very large and confused), but open a new topic.
However, the anti-rootkit scan is I believe an integral part of the scan carried out on windows boot and I believe also if you schedule a boot-time scan. I don't know if this is also in the on-demand scan (run from the simple user interface).

Start a new thread and I'll respond there.

:D No, I'm not - I'm just a wiseacre who has some free time ;D

A quick question, will avast automatically update to 4.8 or must it be done manually?
-
A quick question, will avast automatically update to 4.8 or must it be done manually?
I'm set to automatically update but I had to do it manually. It was told it is not to overload the servers! ;D
-
A quick question, will avast automatically update to 4.8 or must it be done manually?
It will do automatically in 7 days...
The program updates are released but to avoid excessive load on the servers the auto update check happens randomically every 7 days and it's not checking every time you connect to the Internet as with the iAVS checks. Every avast installation has a unique, randomly generated GUID ("general unique identifier") associated with it (it is generated during installation). This ID is random, but fixed. They use this value to determine when the updater pops up on YOUR machine, i.e., the program already knows that the update is there, but it won't tell you until it's your turn.
-
Thanks to all avast team ... I used to have another Antivirus Solutions after trying Avast, I love it so far and think it's one of the best antivirus solutions... Now with the new update 4.8 I feel more protected and I'm recommending this antivirus tu all my friends in Mexico.
-
By default the program is offered to update in the 7 day window. The program is not automatically updated.
-
Thank you, I updated it.
So, now in this version there's a rootkit and a antispyware (even if I didnt see them it seems like before)..
But..
What's a rootkit?
-
You don't see them as they are integral to avast.
When you need to know, ask a friend, like google, which returns many hits, this is the first, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit).
-
So, now in this version there's a rootkit and a antispyware (even if I didnt see them it seems like before).
They're present in Home and Pro version.
In Pro version you can 'see' them and configure them.

Thanks. :)

Hi there. I've got a very strange trouble with new 4.8 avast Home edition. I've updated to it from 4.7 version. After system boot up I discovered that Nokia PC Suite 6.70.20 (Nokia cellsphones manager) installed on my destop won't work any more. I can't connect my phone to PC properly (it's doesn't see it now), can't load any nokia application from PC Suite tray applet... I've tried to add Nokia folder to exclusions (for resident scanner too), but it doesn't act..
After that I uninstalled 4.8 version and PC Suite worked correctly (as always). My next step was - downgrading to old 4.7 version (PC Suite worked perfectly with it before). But... Disappointment again. After 4.7 install I got freezes on system loading (2-3 min pause) and after that avast resident monitor is unable to work with RPC fault... I've tried to clean avast installation with last aswclear.exe program and install after that, but it doesn't help.
In the end I have 2 variants:
1) working avast 4.8 with disabled Nokia PC Suite (this application is very necessary for me)
2) disabled avast 4.7 with working PC Suite...
I need some help with this mess..

Hi and thank you for this wonderful AV.
I have not used Avast for a few years now but i have recently become disillusioned with Kaspersky and the slowdowns it causes.
Avast is running very light on my system with no conflicts, false positives or slowdown in browsing.
Top notch software. :)

No one playing WoW should upgrade to 4.8 unless they want the keyboard headache of a lifetime.
