Hi, how much memory (RAM) do you have?
Which is your operational system?
You said you run a scan, did you find any virus?
Did you ask for a 'deep' scanning (archives and their content) on avast! settings?
Can you post the name of it if you find any?
Wellcome to forums.

I am on WINXP for 512 MB memory on the notebook.

Yes it is, I didn't know you were familiar to avast! terms ;D
What does make you think you have a virus?
Your configurations (XP 512Mb) are not so bad for a notebook?
Did you try the on-line scanning?

my screen got like becoming black from bits to another.
it happened some times already and during running the powerpoint prg. it took up 100 % of cpu.

I suggest the On-line scanning...
Do you use SpyBot, Ad-aware or HijackThis applications? I think it would be a good thing to do some research on your problem...
Are you sure is not an 'eletric' trouble (not only cables becouse you are in a notebook but contact)?
