Post by: ronnycopeh on April 14, 2008, 09:49:48 PM
I just notice the self-defense module in settings>troubleshooting is check, do I need to uncheck it and what does it do, thanks for any help. I have updated to pre-release version of upcoming avast update (4.8.1178) with no problem according to the instructions.

If it's checked, then Self-defence is turned off (Disabled). Probably better turned on (Unticked).
To update to another pre-release version you would need to disable it first, then re-enable it afterwards,

It prevents the disabling of the avast services, change of avast settings, destroying the avast files by malwares. In normal conditions, it should be on.
Why did you disable the rootkit scanning at startup and decrease your security level?

I didn't disable the rootkit scanning at startup, I just notice it was checked, will it slow down boot process by scanning? I'll enable it thanks
