We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
- Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?  Did you have in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?

They don't conflict with avast...
Seems to be anything else.
Did you have any antivirus preinstalled (OEM) with this machine?

i had installed avast 4.8 before too but within twp days i was not able to acee the web the
ie displayed the page cannot be displayed everytime.
then i removed  avast  and installed google pack which came with norton security scan and spyware doctor then i visited avast forum and found the solution

 i then downloaded the 4.8.1169
then i configured the pc shown in instruction video how to set proxy server ms ie explorer lan
i also added the three processes to the windows firewall which were mentioned in the forum

since then the internet has not disconneted but the speed has slowed down not much though
but recently i have encountered few different  problems

if i disable the on access  scanner the  web gets disconneted also some windows settings gets channged
automatically  ???.eg. the check box in display settings for show windows content while dragging gets unchecked i have to configure it again also the fonts gets changed  also i think worth mention
is in the log file after the scan for every file it scan is written
eg.Exception in polymorph virus code(421000)

no matter what file it is then
i then upgraded to 4.8.1178 but still the problem does not solve

that are few problems

Title: "Proxy" Settings
Post by: Spiritsongs on April 21, 2008, 09:20:23 PM
 :)  Hi :

Very few Avast Users use a proxy Server ; who is your Internet Service
Provider and why are you using a Proxy Server ?
Title: Re: new user
Post by: Lisandro on April 21, 2008, 09:38:45 PM
then i configured the pc shown in instruction video how to set proxy server ms ie explorer lan
i also added the three processes to the windows firewall which were mentioned in the forum
Hmmm... why are you setting a proxy? Do you use Windows 98 or Millenium?
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.

Which firewall do you use?

If you have set up your browser with a proxy to use the Webshield then Webshield must on for the proxy to work.

To check it the beta is working you need to remove the proxy from your browser.

i was asked for a windows password at the start up of windows i have not set a password anytime
now what?

Post by: DavidR on April 23, 2008, 02:23:08 PM
If you haven't set a password leave it blank and click Enter, assuming your user name is displayed.

Though why you are getting the screen at logon I don't know as I presume you didn't before (auto logon)

doing that i got error message i dont remember exactly but something
cannot log on......
internal process was longer in length
try afterwards or contact system administrator

If you are getting an error it is more likely because the password is incorrect (you have to right down what the error is and try googling it for suggestions) or user/password combo is incorrect.

Does anyone else have physical access to the computer ?
