Title: Vista 32bit and boot scan
Post by: kbz1960 on April 22, 2008, 12:17:52 AM
Hi, I ran boot scan on a vista machine and it ran but when it finished it didn't start windows and the only thing I could do is hold the power button until the machine turned off. Turning it back on it did start.

Thanks

Can you check the report file in <avast4>\Data\Report\aswBoot.txt and see if there is any error reported? How do you know that the scanning finished?

I looked and don't see a report, I know it finished because it showed everything it found etc. I ran it and went to work and that is how it was when I got home. I've also done several things since then to remove spyware adware etc.

The report is automatically generated... it should be there.
Which spyware/adware did you remove?

And your computer is clean?
If you run avast into Windows, thorough mode, does it return clean?

kbz1960, I was following your posts but I'm empty... I can only imagine that the scan is halted somewhere.
Are you using a notebook? Are the fans working ok?

It's a desktop emachines. I just cleaned a ton of dust out of it before I did anything, they said it was just shutting off........ no doubt!!! I ran fine without shutting off after cleaning and reapplying the heatsink even with all the viruses, spyware, adware etc. All fans are working and I have the side of the case off also. I'm not sure but it seems to finish but then freeze after it's done.
