Well as the title says I got this surprising error quite out of the blue for no apparent visible reason at all. I tried running avast! just to check up on it and after the memory scan, I got this error message which is shown on the attached screenshot. This has never happened to me before until now, and I am running 4.8.1185. Nothing appears to be showing up in the error logs and apparently I wasn't doing anything except simply running avast. After clicking "OK" on that error message though I tried rerunning avast! and interestingly enough this time it ran like it should have.
I'm not sure if I can reproduce this, but I have not rebooted my computer yet If there's anything I can do to do some additional checks at the moment, I'll see what I can do.

Storage error... a very old one from times of old storage methods from avast...
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Hmmm...well I'm not entirely clear what a repair might do since I'm using a beta version so could I get some clarification on whether its safe or not? I might try it out, but for the most part this error hasn't really popped up at all except once--does this mean that it will keep coming back or that a reinstall will fully fix it? Just a bit curious though since I personally find a full reinstall a bit extreme at the moment.

Repair works the same for beta and official releases.

Well... intermittent errors are difficult to troubleshoot. An installation from scratch, if you don't mind, could solve the problem.

Should (hopefully) be fixed in build 4.8.1187.
