Title: Windows security center claims my avast is out of date. but it's not!

Hello.
I downloaded the avast home edition v.48 and registered it. I've updated it (by right clicking it, updating-> iAVS update, as well as program update), but the windows security alerts says: avast antivirus reports it might be out of date.
I've already checked the date. right now it shows 28 April 2008.
before I installed Avast (2 days ago) I had avg free. I had the same problem with it. I've updated, but it showed as if it was out of date. that's why i uninstalled and installed Avast.
I'm addint a screen shot that shows the problem.
Please help.

Check your system date (double click the clock) ensure the day month and year are correct and adjust as required.

As I wrote, I already did that. the date is ok... 28 April 2008.

Oops, missed that looking at the giant image ;D

It may be a problem with the windows wmi since as you said it has happened with avg also.

As you are running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 you can use a single command to detect and repair a corrupted WMI Repository. To do so, type the following from the command prompt (note that the parameter UpgradeRepository is case-sensitive and must be typed exactly as shown):

Windows XP SP2, Start, Run, type cmd and click OK from the command prompt type 'rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepository' without the quotes and enter.

Or type 'rundll32 wbemupgd, RepairWMISetup' without the quotes and enter.

I ran the first command and nothing happened. I ran the second command, and got the following error: "Error in wbemupgd. Missing entry: RepairWMISetup".

I'm not sure what else to suggest as the out of date is usually an indication of the system date not correct, which isn't the case here.

I don't know why it would give the Missing entry: RepairWMISetup error as I thought that the RepairWMISetup and UpgradeRepository were just parameters issued to the wbemupgd.dll file. So why it would not baulk at the first command but fail on the second is beyond my knowledge.

I don't know if it might have something to do with the folder that it happens to be run from, e.g. when you first type cmd you get a DOS window, if it is on say c:\documents and settings\ etc. try changing that to c:\ just type cd c:\ or chdir c:\ and one of those should take you to the root c:\ folder try typing the command there.

Other than that I'm out of ideas.

Now it's ok. All I needed to do was reboot my pc....I guess....

We also get that Out Of Date message when Avast is first installed. We guess that is because the virus database has yet to be updated. When the update happens the message is lost and instead you get the ON message.

When you first install the VPS that is contained in the installation file may not be the latest release so it may be more than 7 days old (which is I think the trigger for the WSC), and if that is the case then the WSC alert is correct.

Once updated (manual or Auto) the date will also be less than 7 days old so no WSC alert, so what is happening is entirely normal.
